Many Cliftonites did Gerrys Autumn Brevet today…and it was superb! An absolutely glorious day for a bike ride – hazy sunshine, dry roads, warm temperatures, great company…sensational!

97 riders turned up at Wigginton to do the 100km loop around Buttercrambe, Norton, Coneysthorpe, Slingsby, Ampleforth, Kilburn, Easingwold and back to Wigginton. There were Clifton representatives from all of the usual Saturday rides as well as some members of Clifton’s mountain bike community. I had a fantastic ride with Mark L, Mal and Jon G – fittingly, as I’d enjoyed many challenge rides with these guys during the year. It had an end-of-season feel to it, with all Cliftonites adopting a steady pace before meeting up again at the Control points. The tea rooms at Ampleforth Abbey felt like an end of year social! It really was a superb day and a great way to round out the season.

PS. Got home to news of two Aussie victories in both the mens and womens road races at the Comm Games

Scarborough paragon tt for me today at Burton Fleming.
A nice relaxed atmosphere accompanied the almost balmy weather conditions. I managed to beat my previous time set in September by 30 seconds, not exactly podium material but very pleasing none the less!
It was nice to end the racing season on a positive note after a rather lacklustre attempt at the hill climb last week.
Roll on next season........... It might be a good one!

MTB clubride on Sunday, starting from Danby, led by Paul Crane.

Excellent route, some nice techy downhills along with greasy mud, long climbs and a river crossing. Marvellous lunch at the Arncliffe Arms in Glaisdale, and though the sun didn't quite make it through the low cloud for us to see the promised splendid views there was always hope!

Just four of us out, which made it a speedy ride, but very sociable as always - though the hill climbs were quieter than usual as I was having to converse with myself whilst the boys focussed on peddling!

Another superb day in good company as Darren as said. It ends my challenge series with 15 points. Roll on next year. Will probably be out on Saturday if weather is ok (not that im a fair weather cyclist )

A sprightly scenic circuit encompassing the contrasting delights of Mammon (Morrisons), God (Ampleforth) and God's own county (need I say more). Topper of a tour round with Darren, Jon and Mark punctuated by splendid scones, and certainly a fitting way to round off a challege series.

I even managed to surpass my standard 16mph average for these things.
