I have started a new thread on this to make it easier to find.

It is a continuation of the "Ron Kitching and etc etc...." thread.

Carol and I have PM'd each other and we think it might be possible to create a database of riders mobile phone numbers, in order to facilitate short notice group rides / riding partners outside usual club meeting times.

The idea is that those that want the list of interested riders can have it and will text all the other members on the list if they are planning a last minute impromptu ride for example if it is a particularly lovely evening (or not depending on how much of a masochist you are).

It is not meant to replace the forum for organising things well in advance, but might make it easier to go out at short notice.

I have been doing this with a group of about 6 friends in Copmanthorpe over the past couple of years and it has definitely meant I have gone out when otherwise I might not have bothered. It was particulalry useful in winter when there were only short breaks in the weather.

Let me know what you think and I will start collating the list.

You could put up a page on the main club website that's only accessible to members (via a login) and put numbers etc. on there

Hey Mark, Where we going with that phone contact list? ;o)

As some of you may know, it has been suggested that we create a database of mobile phone contact details for club members.

The idea would be that you enter the numbers into your own phone and if you fancy some company on a short notice ride outside normal club times, you text everyone on the list with the details and hopefully you will have some riding companions.

This is really useful in the winter months when the weather often means you only get a short window of opportunity for a ride. If you have agreed to meet someone or if you get a text from someone suggesting a ride, it provides that extra motivation that is sometimes required!

We thought the best way of organising this was to post peoples details on this part of the site which is only visible to registered users. Of course you need to be aware that anyone can register and therefore access the mobile numbers but I am not sure that would be much use to anyone really. If it caused a problem we would have to review it.

If you want to be involved, PM me and I will keep the database up to-date.

I propose just using name (real or discussion board) and mobile number.

In the text advertising a ride you would need to give a meet point and time and a rough idea of distance and speed.
