SPOCO 20TH MAY - riders notes & results

Note to all riders: PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE LAY-BY OR ON THE ROAD APPROACHING THE START. Give yourself enough time to find somewhere else to park - e.g. Strensall, Sheriff Hutton or somewhere in the general area.
The ONLY exceptions are those helping with the event and parents bringing younger riders. In these cases - please park in the lay-by if possible and not on the road.
Riders notes:
Please be careful when warming up in the area around the start. Be considerate of other road users when warming up/parking - we don't want any complaints from local residents.
This event takes place on the public highway - all normal rules of the road apply & riders must obey the Highway Code.
Race marshal's are ONLY there to make sure you go the right way. They can't warn, direct or stop traffic for you - it is up to you to make sure it is safe to proceed.
The road surface on parts of the course isn't great - some nice potholes and rough surfaces after the winter.
After you have finished, please don't hang around or bother the timekeepers as they have to concentrate. Results will be posted to the discussion board as soon as possible.
These notes will be displayed at the start. Any new hazards/notes will be added then.

Wow, that was quick putting them out so soon.
Thanks to all who organised it and helped it run so smoothly again.
I will be happy to help at next weeks event.
Cheers

Thanks to Jeff and Paul for fantastic organisation last night and to all the marshalls and Bernard for timekeeping.
I appreciate the effort this can be for getting a flier from work and then signing the course, prior to being mobbed by us lot, all eager and keen to sign on! Once again - thanks for giving up your evening.
I think it was a great suggestion to request riders cars to park elsewhere - it really worked. It meant the timekeeper / organisers had no issue parking themselves, plus plenty of room for the riders to spread themselves out over the rest of the layby!
As we get much bigger fields now, we could potentially have issues spilling onto the road and risk the public complaining of our 'presence', but having plenty room in the layby really helped to minimise any issues with this.
Great conditions last night, warm and no wind..............I may struggle to match that time again! Well done to all riders.
Looking forward to a Club ride this w/e - will need to dig out the Factor 40 suncream!

Thanks to all the helpers who made the first TT I have run so easily. Especially when I first arrived and was a little flustered. Special thanks to Bernard for showing me the timing ropes, Paul for doing the signs with me and for Cath for providing a pack providing everything I needed to do it, organising helpers on the BB and putting the results up

Special special thanks for the police for stopping me whilst I was taking the signs back in for suspicious activity

Thanks everyone from me too. I really enjoyed my first Thursday TT which I suspect you're not really supposed to - I musn't have been trying hard enough! Hope you didn't have to spend a night in the slammer Jeff!
I'd also like to offer to help marshall one of the future TTs to do my bit - 24th June or 8th July look free at the moment.

First SPOCO 10 marshalling Pottery Lane corner.
Last night on this corner there were a couple of alarming moments.
Although most of the field made a good turn, cars can build up to a convoy heading north with some overtaking on the junction itself. If the rider pushes in without acknowledging that the cars have the right of way on the road, this could be nasty. There was no unhappy result last night although one rider who realised that he had taken a chance, regardless of my warning shouts, did come back and apologise to me after the event.
Can riders be reminded of the CTT regulations as I prefer riders to go home to their own beds at night.
Best wishes for the rest of the season.
Ride safely, Mac
