Cliftonites who are fond of riding the Wolds will be delighted to hear that they can own their very own David Hockney!
It is his famous painting of Big Trees at Warter.
As a double page centre spread in today's Guardian.
Own a Hockney for just ONE pound!

David Hockney now lives in Bridlington, and has made at least 36 paintings of
the landscape of the Wolds, the very stuff we ride through. These you can get as postcards at Saltaire.

But the Warter painting is EXTRA special, as the trees were all cut down just weeks after he had finished the painting. He went back, and promptly made another painting of the now bare space, with the logs stacked in the foreground!

The huge clump of Warter trees were a real landmark, seen for miles around. Now you can keep them and love them forever!

Cheers Willy!

I shall get a copy of the Grauniad at lunch. I love Warter because of Warter Bank!

lovely - you can see some of it here.
He was on Look North a few months ago, sat on top of the wolds somewhere, painting out in the open.
A fine cycling road, the B1246!

Anyone who wants to see more of Davids impressions of the wolds through the seasons, can see a selection at Sledmere house shop when they open again in the spring - in the meantime we have one in our kitchen, reminding me of some of my favourite rides & views in the Wolds.
