Hi all,
I am looking to give time trailing a bash and was hoping that someone could give me a little direction. I have a bike and have cycled for a while now. I plan to join Clifton CC but have a few questions can anyone please help?
Thank you
Justin

Hi Justin
Feel free to stick more specific questions on here but to be honest you'd be better off getting out on some of the club rides (which you're welcome to do prior to joining) and talking to people - there will be timetriallists casual and serious among those who do the Saturday and Sunday rides.
At this time of year there's not going to be much in the way of competition until next spring, so you've got plenty of time to get your endurance and general aerobic fitness up just by doing long steady rides and then think about how serious you want to take the training in the spring. The club does a series of Thursday evening TT's starting around May which are an excellent way in to it.

At this time of year most competition/racing types will be winding down from the season that's coming to an end, getting steady endurance miles in over the winter, then increasing their training intensity as the spring starts to be in peak form for when competitive riding starts in April/May.
Most Clifton riders will just be out enjoying their riding

PhilBixby, Dr Dave,
Thank you for the advice, I have down loaded a membership form and have completed it ready to send in. Does the club still run through the winter season? If I join now do I get a full years membership? will someone at the club be able to offer me advice on training through the winter. Where can I get recommended training sessions from for the closed season. I have a turbo trainer and I am more than willing to get out on the roads in the bad weather.
Sorry to be all questions
Any further advice will be greatly recieved
Thank you
Justin

If you join now your membership will run until the end of 2010. The regular Saturday and Sunday rides continue all through the winter, and as you'll see from the discussion board people get together for informal weekday rides too.
We have a few members and near-members who actually have some coaching qualifications and a far larger number who have coaching opinions - there's a "Training" forum elsewhere on here and specific questions will usually get a response. Or, as suggested, just get out on club rides, see who seems to talk sense, and who has similar aims to you, and ask their advice. In addition there's plenty on the web (
www.flammerouge.je being an example) and there are a few good books if you want some bedtime reading - Joe Friel's Cyclist's Training Bible being my personal fave.
