Clifton Cycling Club Hill Climb Event

A reminder that the prestigious Clifton Cycling Club Hill Climb is in 2 weeks: Sunday 4th Oct.

Start Bishop Wilton at 11am.

The climb is the minor road which goes up from the village X-roads to join the A166. Finish just prior to the junction.

Entries on the line £2 Senior; £1 Junior / Unemployed (a bargain!)

Max gradient 20%, distance 1.2 Km

There are several Club trophies up for grabs, but more importantly there is the glory for the winners and respect for all those taking part.

Depart 0930 from the Square for those riding out together.

See you there
Claire & Robert

PS. We’ve never had more than 40 riders for the event, but given the great interest in Club Events so far this year, I have to plan in case we do……so:

Entry Rules:
1. Max number of riders for CTT-organised Club Events is 40.
2. I’ll give Clifton 1st claim members priority sign on (plus Organisers of Clifton Club events this year). This priority will last until 10-40am.
3. Any rider who is a member of a CTT club is welcome to ride and at 10-40am entry opens to all, up to a max of 40.

Apologies if not agreeable to all – we have to have a plan, but obviously I hope everyone who wants to ride, gets to ride.

Cheers
Claire

Just a note for those James Bond lovers out there, on a recent visit to the village school in Bishop Wilton & whilst advising the head about the forthcoming event. He advised me of the local resident James Bond who apparantly lived part way up the hill in a big house (well what would you expect of a film star!!). So watch out on the way back down as you may see a sightly familiar face admiring ? your efforts,
Bernard

I'm a member of a CTT affiliated club from where I lived before, but have lost my membership number. Do I need to go and ask them again, or will you take my word for it?

Hello G.

We do not check whether you are a member of a CTT affiliated Club - you sign to confirm that you are.

So, if you are sure you are a current member then there is no issue.

If you are in doubt, join Clifton CC now and I suspect the membership secretary will give you membership from now to end 2010.

However, if you like, I'll dig out the Club 'lie-detector' apparatus and buff up the electrodes in preparation!

I wasn't planning on riding this but if Claire's going to get the electrodes out then where do I sign? :) :)

Hi There All

We're looking for just 2 helpers for this Hill Climb event:

1. A Pusher Off (to help me at the Start)
2. Another person to stand at the top of the hill in an 'Official's Jacket' to warn cars if they are turning to drive down the hill to take care or, preferably, to take the route to Bishop Wilton at the bottom of the A166 (additional role of helping Robert lookout for numbers as he'll be timekeeping at the top)

So if you'd like to help out, I'd appreciate a call / message. It is, afterall, the only acceptable excuse for not riding!

Thanks muchly,
Claire

Thanks Dave.

Event starts at 11am, so signing on from 10-20ish. If you can be at the start for then that would be smashing.

Robert is riding out from the square at 9-30am prompt.

Anyone else?
Rob could probably do without a clerk / marshall at the top - we could, at a push, ask number 1 to take that role if no-one else can volunteer?

Cheers

206 current Clifton members. Maximum of 40 riding the event. 166 potential helpers, and Claire needs one. Come on folks, it's simple things like this that make the club work.

my sister is interested in riding this too, so I assume she'll have to join clifton. Can she join on the day?

yes Arthur, I shall have some forms ready to join on the day. She needs to be a member of a club to ride.

John - thanks for the offer. I now have enough helpers as Julia can help too.

Me - timekeeper at start
Dave C - pusher off
John O'D- marshall - at mystery T-junction on RHS part-way up climb
Julia - Clerk / marshall at top of hill
Johnny Gil (my Dad) - Clerk / marshall at top of hill
Rob - timekeeper at top of hill

Start is 11am
If helpers can please be there for around 10-30, it'll stop me worrying!

Thanks very mucho. Looking fwd to it.

Hope to see you on the Thorpe Perrow club ride tomorrow, 1st autumnal ride of the year.

will there be a group riding back from the event to exhibition square?

there will definately be a group taking in a few extra miles and a cafe after the race. And then returning to York.

I'm sure there will be others riding directly back to York, so you'll need to talk to a few after the event.
