Stacey, went and did this event yesterday, she was off at 6.04, so we managed to pull ourselves out of bed at 0330, I've got to say that's early.

With only 6 weeks back into training after the Mallorca accident and the longest ride she had managed being last weeks 'Evans' ride on the North Yorkshire Moors, where she took 8 hours to do 82 miles, to say she was worried, was an understatement.

However her plan was never to get off the bike, which is where you lose time, and all those little seconds and minutes and up. She also rode it without a watch or a speedo, but just rode on heart rate, hoping to hold 154, but actually riding nearer 145 most of the time.

I gave her the first time check at 4 hours, obviously she was hoping she was around 6 hours now, so a few 'expletive deletives'. At 6 hours she was at 107 miles and looking ok, but it had started to rain and the wind had come up, so one leg of the course was hard, but obviously another leg was easier.

The day continued basically like that with at about 8.5 hours her not being able to stomach any more gels and going on to crunchies and jelly babies. By 9.5 hours we had to move her on to flat white lemonade as the energy drink was starting to make her gag.

At 10 hours 50 minutes I could tell she was coming up the road on the first lap of the finishing circuit, because I could hear her crying from 200m away. After a few more pain killers, taken while she was pedalling she again went after the boys.

Finally as she went past me with 15 minutes to go (I told her 10) she was starting to look happier, particulary as I told her she looked like she might break the 200 mile barrier.

She raced past one of the finishing marshalls cars, hoping her would be the last one, but finally reached the next one about 2 minutes after time. From there she had to spin back about 4 miles, but that probably helped.

Result 204.53 miles, with I personally thought was a pretty good effort for a first attempt.

The provisional results show her as second at the moment, but the girl in first place was last, they have just smudged there paperwork, as Stacey lapped her on the big circuit at about 2pm and the other lady also lapped her.

In the car on the way back she was pretty sick, but we soon cured that with proper recovery food - Chinese!!

ps. She says that peeing on the bike allows your shoes to stretch when your feet get hot, so she never got any cramp in her toes!?

You learn something every day, something to remember when trying to catch the H ride on a Saturday.

Great effort though well done Stacey.
