Clifton's annual road race...

...is approaching - Sunday 30th August. This is always a day with a real buzz; a morning prologue and afternoon road race around the Bulmer/Ganthorpe circuit. A full field of sixty this year! Suffering of a high order and you, yes you have a chance to not just witness but also enable this suffering. We'll need marshals, HQ helpers, photographers, timekeepers and judges. If you can be involved, please post on here.
We'll also need three people who have a car and a BC silver membership to drive the lead cars - if you're able to do this then please, again, post on here and Andy J will be in touch. You will get a flashing light and a status on the road that you may never again experience.

I will gladly photograph the day, and marshal too if numbers are short.

Dash, I won't be able to help this year due to other commitments, it's a shame as it is a thoroughly interesting day where you get to marshal and also watch some damm good racing on a very hard circuit.
So go on then volunteer to help if you are thinking about it, many helpers always makes events like this look very well organised and ensures the whole day goes smoothly.

Phil,
I can take my car and I also have BC sliver membership, or I could help out any other way.

Hi Phil,
I am riding a charity event that day with the kids in Leeds so can not help out ~ sorry. However you might find it helpful to know that I have all the signs, bibs etc from the SPOCO events which I guess you will need. Happy to drop them off ~ let me know where and when is best for you.

Phil,
I'll be able to help out for a few hours in the morning - happy to share the load shovelling gravel at Bulmer Bank again (can't believe I just typed that!).
Jason.

Okay folks... ...final few days before the event. Update:-
If everyone who has posted on here and/or emailed Andy direct turns up, we should be somewhere near in terms of general help, marshals etc. But more is better, so if you've not put your hand up for it yet but you're around on Sunday, please come along! (Please let us know in advance if can though - all marshals will get a packed lunch and it helps to know numbers). If you've said you're able to drive then please get in touch with Andy to confirm arrangements - he'll need car details etc for the BC race paperwork.
Last year we used a pretty slick rolling results system based on a laptop and a projector, which enabled us to update the placings as they came in and have them projected up on the wall. To do this again this year we'll need a laptop running Excel, and a projector. Is anyone able to help out with a loan of one or other for the day please?
Likewise if anyone has a video camera and knows how to use it, you will be very popular if you can get yourself there on Sunday. Because it's a two-stage event, the final overall positions require us to log not just the finish order in the RR but the finish times of all riders. To do this we will have a gang of sharp-eyed people with stopwatches but having it all captured on camera is a really valuable back-up which reduces the chance of me getting punched by an irate rider who gets placed 33rd rather than 3rd. Anyone able to take that on?
Other than that, keep your fingers crossed for the weather...

Me again.
A couple of people have asked about the order of events for the day and what's involved. Here's a quick run-down:-
Signing-on will start about 8:30 - I'll be there to deal with this but any help setting things up is appreciated. There'll be signs to put out for the morning's prologue TT. There are always problems to sort and entrants' questions to answer.
The Prologue starts at 10:00. We'll need a few marshals to keep things safe over the narrow bridge and also to make sure riders get over the roundabout just after the finish safely. We'll need timekeepers and pusher-offer but I think Andy's got names pencilled in. If you can marshal this (even if you can't stick around for the a/noon) then post on here and get yourself along before 9:00. Event HQ is Sheriff Hutton village hall - just on the right as you enter the southern end of the village.
We'll then need preparations making for the road race - signs putting out and any major gravel patches sweeping (last year there seemed to have been some sort of gravel-related "happening" at the foot of Bulmer Bank and we nearly needed a JCB). Next is marshalling the race - we need a fair few people on junctions and other danger-points because it's a fairly long circuit. This year we'll have a rolling road closure arrangement which means marshals will be empowered to stop traffic. As a result of this there will be a pre-race briefing - sometime between 11 and 12 - and then marshals will be off to their stations for the duration of the race - just over 2hrs if the riders get a move on. If there are "spare" helpers around then there are always things to sort out during the race, plus at the finish we'll need a load of people to help record finishers' positions and times.
After the event a few people to clap during the prizegiving would be good!
52 of you ticked the box on the membership form saying you intended racing sometime. Club road races all work on the same basis of being organised and marshalled by club members; if this didn't happen, there'd be no events, simple as that. Fortunately they're great fun to be involved with, and there's a real buzz around them - and especially ours, as it's a great (ie brutal) circuit. Come along on Sunday and enjoy yourself.

If you still need any helpers then I should be able to do something, or if not I might just come along anyway to watch
