Well it did take to event 9 before we got a good soaking this year. My concern: marshalling at Pottery Lane Corner I had four riders bunched together at the junction and four cars coming north simultaneously (big word for me!). Three riders took heed of my warning shouts and signs, the other decided to slip in. He knows who. It frightens me and it frightens the motorists - it was their road. Safely first please.

Race numbers should be pinned at hip level so that the marshalls and timekeepers can read them. Just as important the yellow background is a good safety aid against overtaking traffic.

As the riders disappeared into the rain and gloom on Thursday towards the finish, the yellow stood out right up to the next bend even though the riders' outlines had faded. Clifton was one of the first clubs to use full race numbers for this reason over thirty years ago.

Enjoy your racing, ride safely.
