Are waterproof overshoes supposed to keep your feet dry?

I appologise for the stupid sounding title, but really?

I bought some Endura waterproof overshoes (see link below):

Anyway, I though, great!, gonna be able to go out on wet days and keep my feet dry... but so far all they have being good for is on really cold nights when it is dry keeping my feet warm..

I went out in the wet and about 10 mins into ride thats it... water started getting in, not to mention how worn they seem to have got, I estimate they have had less than 100miles of use yet too.

Anyone ever had problems with Endura overshoes?

Thanks
Will.

I've never had Endura overshoes, but if you think about it, no overshoes can be waterproof since they've got a bleedin' great hole in the underside for the cleats, and a fair bit of the water that's trying to find its way in will be coming upwards from the front wheel and road. If you read the description, they only say the fabric's waterproof - which it probably is. As far as wear's concerned, my experience is that overshoes always fall apart under the toe because it contacts the ground when you walk. If you accept this and just reinforce the seams to stop the hole spreading then usually they last a fair while; I've got a pair of Briko's which are halfway through their second winter despite looking a bit secondhand.

The underside has not worn yet, its the upper side!

I'd not have though much water would get through where the cleats are? As with my shoes at least the hole the cleats are screwed into does not go all the way into the shoe so no water can get to it.

If so he's got the wrong end of the stick IMO.

I go out in days it's totally p****** it down, the rain does not bother me although it would be a bonus to keep my feet dry, I don't mind getting wet as it does not bother me at all on the bike, what I don't like is in winter getting REALLY cold feet where it's at the point of being painful.

"I think Andy means HTFU!"

Absolutely top-notch link, Dave. Now, in addition to my aforementioned personal demons, I get occasional visits in my mind's eye when on the turbo from Chopper:- "This is Phil. He's training for next season but he wants to stop his intervals halfway because his legs hurt. Well get this - chief coach Chopper reckons you need to....."
