I cycled out with Holly (11) to Hovingham and caught a couple of laps. Met Mickie Hornby who was kind enough to praise Hollys effort having seen us earlier between Sheriff and Terrington.
Despite making myself dizzy trying to spot Kit couldn't see him. A slightly damp Steve in the bakery reported had seen him earlier in day riding strongly. Sounds like an amazing effort.
In fact the whole event was v impressive. And how it is possible to put out that level of power over so many laps i have no idea. Although having scavanged a couple of discarded bottles i think the answer may be pomegranate juice

Got a free Rumble Ride after marshalling, first at Slingsby, then at Helmsley just before the finish.
Abiding memories are:
-Seeing Mr Millar lather his legs before the start with force 60 or thereabouts suncream. Did not help him in the end.
-Hearing the radio car race reports announcing each lap that Jamie Sharp was still in the escape group.
-Seeing Rob Hayle on the podium going for a second kiss from Lady Feversham. Now I know what motivates racing cyclists. Can't be the size of the prize cheques, plumbers get more just for a cal out!
All in all a good day, and saved what's left of my legs for the Tourmalet on Sunday.
ps: The crowds spectating in Hovingham were getting on for Tour standard. Great atmosphere, lots of club rides had gathered too.

and 5 places ahead of David Millar!
There were good efforts by local riders. I saw Jamie Sharp working hard to bridge a gap to the lead group near Coneysthorpe and Alistair Kay was pulling at the front of one of the small groups up that long drag near the feed on the last lap.
I think it is a shame British Cycling don't use the Bulmer circuit and finish at Castle Howard. You could close most of the circuit to traffic, there would be more opportunities to watch the race and there would be no race traffic moving from one feed zone to the other.
