Was flicking through a cycling book last night (Italy had gone two up and the game was fizzling out....) Apparently, in the Summer of 1908, Bert Wills (AKA the Putney Midget; he was 5'1") set a new mark for the motor paced world hour record on a track in Munich.

So how far do you think he got? Think of the bikes of the time, think of the training techniques, think of the diet, think of the quality of the track......

Riding behind a motor bike he covered 61 miles, 1007yds. That's nearly 100km in English.   I didn't know motor bikes could do that in 1908!
