Rider ID

Don't know if this has been discussed before - but Becky sent me this mail which could be useful to some people:

Hi there,
I'm not sure if you are aware but recently someone locally tragically died whilst out on a training ride. The Police had difficulty in identifying them.

It raises the questions of ID whilst we're all out on the road. I'm sure not one person can say that every ride someone knows exactly you've gone, and we all know how vulnerable we can be in the traffic. Having done some digging I've found a few websites supplying sports ID wristbands and helmet tags. I've just ordered one myself from Road ID but thought it was worth sharing this info about...... www.RoadID.com (works out at about £13.00 incl delivery), or www.iceideas.co.uk.

Both of these let you put whatever you want on the ID so you can include your details, contacts, allergies or anything else which you think could help get you the best help in case of emergency. They are also both waterproof and obviously just as useful for walking, climbing, running, tri, etc, etc.... Please could you put a note on the website just to make people aware?
Cheers

I always make sure on rides I have the Clifton membership card on me, which goes some way with the contact phone number.

There was a similar problem in the army when I did my duty to NATO in National Service. The problem there was solved in a grizzly way: you were given a metal two part ID badge on a chain to hang round the neck. When your body was found one half would be broken off to be sent to the family, the other half stayed attached so as not to mix up your identity with other badge holders in similar condition. Anyone for joining?
