Hi Everybody
Just a reminder that it's the Ron Kit next Saturday (21st).
Short ride is worth 1 point the longer 150k ride is worth 2 in the challenge series.
We will be riding the 150k as the Sunday Club run and hope that other club members who are planning on doing it would join us.If you are not sure if you are up to it,but, can knock of a Saturday middle group ride comfortable you should be okay. 2 newish members who haven't done a hilly audax yet are coming along and we will ride it as a group finnishing together in a strong showing of clifton colours.Blackey Ridge is a fairly tough but do able climb and if your legs are suffering, the final climb Rosedale Chimney has been listed as optional, so we can split at that point and re-group at Hutton-Le-Hole. Any doubts just email me or ask Kevin.

I did the 150km a couple of years back and can testify that Blakey Ridge a toughie of the climb but as for Rosedale Chimney, well for me anyway it was unclimbable having done about 70 miles at that point but I still walked up just to see how steep it was.
Have entered the 100km option this year because I plan on riding to York and back as well which will still means doing nearly doing 100 miles plus. Will be wearing a Clifton jersey so should stand out and am happy to join and other Clifton riders on the ride at least up to the split point of the 2 rides.

Have you joined the CTC because isn't it a bit cheaper if you do. I know that sounds a bit stupid because it will cost you to join the CTC but has others have siad you will get 3rd party insurance.

I dont like the sound of insurance that does not protect from theft which means I have to pay even more for insurance, if I fall off my bike I'm fine it was my fault dont see why I need insurace, its only £12 or someting to join but am not sure.

The third party insurance comes in to play if you cause some damage or an accident.
For example, your riding causes a car to swerve and crash.
Whilst hopefully it will never happen, you'd be in a pickle if you weren't insured and had to pay out of your own pocket.

I'm planning to do it but haven't pre-entered. Can you just turn up, pay and enter?

What time would be best to set off? Got to get there for around 7-7:30am so there is plenty of time before the ride so I'd say 6am-6:30am I'd be setting off?
I'll sign up for it when I get there, I just noticed there is a 33% climb on the 150K route

, I might consider trying my old gears and back wheel on this one

Mmmm, Rosedale Chimney, I've only got up it once without walking. Don't think I'll manage it this time either, but I shall have a good go.

Does the Ron Kit go to anywhere like boltby bank? If I can get up that on my new bike I'd be very happy as the last time I tried it on my old bike with bigger sprocket I could not get up it.

Are you sure your old cassette is same number of gears as new one, Will? And anyway, isn't the little ring on your new bike a 34T or similar, giving you a pretty seriously low lowest gear?
