Yep both bikes are Tiagra and 9spd, just the shifters from my carrera are the old style (ugly ones), I'd just swap em both if they where good looking.

I DID IT!!!

Managed to swap the changers over myself and gears are changing breaks are working!! :D

Saved like 12 quid there. 8)

Well I don't think anyone is interested anymore the amount I'm moaning.

But my bike is falling apart... litrally!


The wheel is wobbly, cone service needed allthough I almost certainly can do that myself.

The crank is apparently dead.. It went wobbly, they tightened it up, it was fine agian apart from a small amount of play, they said it wont come loose again but it has even more so now..

I'll deafenitly need them to do it for me.

I also need a front mech service, I'll have them do that I tried to do it all night last night and I just could not do it.

Cables need replacing I think, I can do that apart from front mech.

So what I can do:

Replace cables
Replace brake pads
Cone service

What I cant do:
Front mech setup
Front mech cable as it messes up front mech.

They are charging 20 quid for the crank and 25 quid labour then 8 quid for the front mech and 4 quid for a cable.

Speaking from painful experience, get that crank sorted asap and don't ride on it. You can strip the threads in the frame (I did!)

Glad you got the shifters sorted on your own. If you haven't already got it, the Haynes book on bike repair is a good one.

I have asked em to get a crank tool in for friday, I'm going to replace the crank on my own as I am getting the tools for it.

Going to do everything except the front mech cant do with this taking bike to bike shop all the time it's like taking a PC to a PC shop when its faulty, something I never do so I want to do it with my bike now.

I'm going to give the bike a damn good clean today and come friday I'll fit new pads, new cables, new crank myself following guides from Park Tools.

Just to correct myself - joys of sleep deprevation...

Loose crank: riding on it loose will trash the crank
Loose bottom bracket: riding on it loose can trash the frame.

(at least with standard push fit cranks)

So if I have the correct tool is it possible for me to mess it up?

Cant wait to get it working again the bike looks so awesome it's the cleanest it's being since I bought it, looks new in the dark 8)

Cranks/BB like that are fairly simple. Read how to do it carefully and go for it. Be aware of with way round things tighten up on your BB and all should be fine.

Think I have all the tools.

If I never opened my big mouth I'd have got a Dura-Ace Crank/BB for 20 quid, got a 105 for 20 quid instead :\

Wont come off :P

Well I managed to fit the bottom bracket, I enjoyed fitting it and am pleased I did it myself :)

Just want to ask something.

If both of my gear shifters are faulty would cycle heaven be able to just stick a new set on once they have my faulty set and then send the faulty ones off via warranty?

This is so bizarre, I've not abused the gear changers or even banged them yet they both have gone faulty in less than a week between both occasions :shock:

Dont get it.

On the plus side went to Harry Halls bicycle shop and got a free cable and he set my front mech up for free (well would of if my damn shifter never broke), also would have got my rear break working for free too (if that was not faulty)
