Okay, some notes from me following the meeting:-

Looks like the ideas are:-

-A series run under BC rules
-Maybe all handicap events or maybe mix of handicapped and cat 3/4
-Liaise with Pete Sutton re structure, online entries etc and maybe use similar structure to CDNW series
-Cam to liaise with Pete Sutton to identify clubs who could do with being involved and then contact them
-RichT to liaise with Rich Houghton re an initial meeting to see how he could provide management services to get event approvals and deal with traffic management on the night.

From conversations with Rich Houghton it looks like circuits in North Yorkshire could be possible subject to early applications and possible traffic management costs, so we could look at identifying circuits that are convenient for York.

...on the subject of which I said I'd post a list of possibles, with the hope that anyone who has raced recently or in the past might add to it / comment on it / etc.

Circuits I know comprise:-

-Bishopwood – flat loop of roads southwest of Cawood. Currently used a couple of times a year.
-Wheldrake – Escrick – Thorganby – flat circuit, not used recently.
-Westow – new circuit proposed last year but not approved.
-Bulmer – Ganthorpe – Sheriff Hutton – hilly circuit previously used for club RR.
-Terrington – Slingsby – Hovingham – hilly circuit previously used as part of two-day club RR.
-Brandsby – Crayke – Stillington – lumpy circuit last used about 4yrs ago by Cycleworks, with “off-circuit” finish up Yearsley Bank.
-Milby – Cundall – flat circuit north of Boroughbridge – used regularly for TLI series until demise.
-Aldborough – Marton – undulating circuit south of Boroughbridge – used for TLI series and LVRC events until recently.
-Langthorpe – Kirby Hill – Skelton – undulating circuit north of Boroughbridge used regularly for TLI series until demise.
-Penny Pot (Beckwithshaw, north of Harrogate) – long, undulating circuit used for BC events until recently.
-Thorner – undulating circuit used for BC events until recently.
-Ledston (north of Castleford) – short triangular circuit currently used a couple of times a year.

Any others? Once we have a full list we can get BC to dig out risk assessments and get Rich Houghton to look at what traffic management might be required to get approval for use (and hence what costs would be).

The first thing that come up to my mind ‘’is boxing a sport?’’ and the answer is yes. So I would just say my favourite sport person is Muhammad Ali (the greatest boxer). Frankly speaking I am not sure how to spell his name. Is it with Mohammad, Muhammad or Mohammed?

Just pronounce it as Cassius Clay which was the name before he was converting to Islam. He was increasingly in love with Islam and converted into a Muslim and changed his name to Muhammad Ali.

His style was described as “dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee”. The fact is he involved in several historic boxing matches whom he beat by big success to win the world heavyweight title. He only got five losses with no draws in his career and with 56 wins. He was crowned as “Sportsman of the Century” and “Sports Personality of the Century”

I would just roughly say his achievements;
Total fights 61
Wins 56 (37 knockouts and 19 decisions)
Losses 5

Last but not least, I am admiring him because his daughter Laila Ali also became a boxer and became one of the best woman boxers of record.
I obviously choose this person simply because his name just resembles my father’s name.

Thanks Alfred....No denying that Ali was a great boxer but does he have any comments on the circuits that Phil has listed or any views at all on a new Yorkshire RR League?

Possibly we can have a debate on ali's thoughts on the league at our next meeting.....

I've been in touch with Rich Houghton and have arranged to meet him in Brigantes on 3 November at 7.30 to discuss traffic management on the suggested routes. Anyone who is interested in helping with the race league is welcome to come.

If Ali turns up we shall have to explain that, if we talk about getting a "round" in, this has nothing to do with boxing... I don't fancy having to square up to the big fella, even if he is of pensionable age. Besides, Ali's road racing days are long behind him now and he is more of a "life style cyclist" these days...I understand that he is doing one or two sportives next year, including the Ryedale Rumble (in the Jungle).

Apologies - no more Ali references from me...don't want the 'Moderator' having to intervene as really bad puns like these are probably tantamount to swearing...

See you on the 3 Nov.

If of any use, Penny Pot Lane circuit is great but not for the faint hearted with that invariably slippy descent. Not for inexperienced newbies to cycling and road race league. May be carnage there!! But at least it would make catching the slower groups easier as they slide down the road!! Good luck with organising. Rest of the circuits pretty good.

A final thought would be to make sure groupings and timings right as the flat circuits usually end up in a BIG bunch sprint and are fast. If timings and groupings well thought out it can make racing interesting but if it all comes together too soon then there are lots of inexperienced people hanging on for dear life in a huge group. Good luck again.

Good man! Five minutes walk from the station and you'll be in time for the first round (though hopefully not with Ali...)

Just to follow on from last night.. I think we agreed that we would look to have 8 races (under BC) on a Thursday night running from about end of April to August and we would look to avoid a clash with the TLI's EYRRL. We thought that 4 hosting clubs (one of whom would be Clifton) could host 2 events each. York Cycleworks and Dirtwheels have already said they would be keen. I will contact the other clubs (suggested by Pete Sutton) to see if we can get a fourth on board. Matthew (from Malton Wheelers) was also there last night. Can Malton Wheelers assist Clifton with hosting a couple of the events Matthew? Rich Houghton turned up and was keen to provide Traffic Mangement Services for us at a competative cost! Rich Houghton, Pete Sutton and Sgt John Hunter are meeting on 22/11 to look at possible courses. I think that we thought that if they could come up with 4 courses that would be great....Pete Sutton did say that getting Commissaires might be problematic. I will check out with him how much of problem this may be.
