Ron Kit - Challenge Ride

Will
You won't be only the rider out tomorrow worried about whats ahead.
This will be hard but take confidence from the ride you did a fortnight ago. Some people riding won't have yet done a ride as hard as that one.
We will be taking it steady out to Blackey,I don't want anyone to have been working hard to get there. We will do the climbs at our own pace regardless of others going faster. On a long ride take it steady. In a group that means ensuring everyone can take it steady not just the fitter riders.I don't want anybody to be past it at Hutton-le-hole because we still have to make it back to York.
We will not be leaving people behind.I am doing this as a club run and we want everyone to finnish having had a good day.If riders want to go at a faster pace then they will need to split from the group.

Hi Willwillhub wrote:I'll be at that seat at the round about at 7am then, I'm just going to cope with it if it rains hopefully I'll have some protection from the weather by then though!.Jon G wrote:Dont believe everything you see on the internet. According to Metcheck its going to be fine and on the the BBC Local forecast not bad either.willhub wrote:Dont know if I'll be doing the ron kit now, just checked the weather, heavy rain that day
I must admit though I might have second thoughts if the weather is rubbish but I will leave the decision until Sat morning and I'll probably be at Cawood around 7am if I choose to go so may miss you if you set off earlier.
See you at the racecourse Will, maybe
Jonathan
I seen you yesterday up on the road up to bishopwood when you went past the road to selby.
On the day will I still need money for cafe stops or is there in water or bits of food included along the way?
Just a note for tomorow if I'm there at 7am, Ok, but dont wait for me if you want to get there. If i'm not there by 7am go without me its just I might start a bit later as I'm doing the 100km not ghe 150km. However the weather forecast is cr** so might start early as possible.
Jon
Yep weather forecast is total rubbish tommorow its almost depressing I'm going to spend some dosh on a anorak today and some overshoes they are better than nothing, I wish this weather would get lost and bring on the real weather we should be having in june its just rubbish
I got an anorak from CH for £31, discounted from £65, some aultra or something but should be good enough and fold up good.
Also at the racecourse where do you go? Its all grass so its going to be a long walk to the tent no? Do I enter the racecourse from the way in on the field near the road that is tadcaster road?

Sounds like we have a good gang going for the longer route.
I will be riding the shorter version and have to be back in town in time to watch some dancing mid afternoon.
Anyone interested in joining me?
Its a slightly later 9am start and rough plan is to keep going as much as possible without killing ourselves and stop at WI cake fest - last year i was a slave driver and forced everyone to ride past. No repeat this time i promise.

Met office was wrongDr Dave wrote:Heavy Rain all day according to the Met Office. It's my children's school sports day so I'm not going to be given a day-pass for the ride. May be just as well!

Will, the point is that you (and others) were tempted not to ride because of a poor weather forecast. You decided to ignore this and go anyway, and hey, you had a good ride. Its amazing how often this happens. My advice to anyone who cares to listen is to make commitments and turn up. Too many other things get in the way of cycling without "it might rain", so when you get chance - JFDI.
And as for today; its a bit drafty out there, but far from the dire warnings on the radio this morning. 6 of us did a brisk 60 miles this morning and I don't remember even talking about the wind!

The wind bothers me more than the rain, today I havent gone out, mainly due to taking abit of time to relax from yesterday, I would go out in it but I know I would get abit ***** off due to the fact into this head wind I would be down to like 12mph I'm sure the trees at the end of my garden are almost ready to go over its that strong today!.
Will, I reckon you should tape over the speed read-out on your computer for a month and see how much less stressful cycling is when you don't notice your speed! When you cycle into a headwind you just clonk it down through the gears until you're pedalling with the same effort as when it's neutral. When the wind's behind you you wind it up in a big gear and again keep putting the same effort in. The fact that in one direction you're going slower than the other... ...so what!
Im sure the pro's dont go out each day thinking I must maintain that magical 50kmh today, especially when in the mountains.
Will, speed is completely irrelevant, training is all about maintaining a level of exertion that enables your body to become more efficent, ie long slow rides for endurance, short rides with intervals for speed. You would be better off investing in a heart rate monitor and gauging your own level of effort rather than worrying about what sped everyone else can maintain for a set distance.
When I go out traing/ riding I only pay attention to how hard Im riding, dont get sucked into having to maintain a set speed.
