As we are now finishing in Stockton on Forest, the route will remain the same - the only difference being we wont now turn left into Stamford Bridge from the Buttercrambe road but take the next right turn. In other words we will be avoiding Stamford Bridge altogether. The route to Stockton is the way we always take coming in or out of York from this direction - after the right turn, it is left in Upper Helmsley, next right up the short climb (take care on the corner!), right at the T junction and left into Stockton on Forest. The village Hall is on the right in the middle of the village. So from the Buttercrambe road it is right, left, right, right, left! Its just like the finish to the Tour of Britain 2 years ago except we couldnt afford Bradley Wiggins!
Below is last years route

Obviously ignore the left turn as Paul says to Stamford Bridge and also my route home. And before anyone points it out No my garmin does not stop right outside my house.

I don't know how steady you want it Jon, but I intend riding it like a sunday club run, I think this will also suit some of the saturday Assos and pate lunch crowd, so that should be a good group. I'm sure Rob will get us organised.Jon G wrote:I cannot decide wether to do this ride having seen the forecast for Sunday. I don't fancy riding on my own so is anyone wanting to ride with me in a steady group.

Despite the rain and wind, I had a superb ride in the reliability today.
I latched on to a big group as one of the last to leave the car park. I suddenly found us screaming down the Haxby Road at a crazy speed of c.25 mph. After the ring road, wise heads prevailed and Rob O, John C, Pete K and I peeled off the back to assume a more sensible speed.
On the early hilly stuff, we caught up with Mtb golden girls, Steph and Lisa, who stayed with us the majority of the way round. We also swept up Tony G, and later Chris C, who did well to chase us solo after early mechanicals.
A stiff headwind on Birdsall and a couple of punctures fractured our group again and our original four plus Chris C found ourselves alone again and carving out a steady pace back to SOTF. I was a bit worried about my fitness for this one but felt fine throughout, which was definitely a bonus.
Huge thanks to Rob who watched out for us and led us superbly all day. Thanks also to everyone who rode with us and maintained their sense of humour on a difficult day.
In particular, big thanks to Andy and helpers who organised a fantastic event and welcomed us back to the village hall with some very nice pasta and cakes, even though we all turned up looking like coal miners. My eyes still hurt from the grit pounding! I was very tempted to ride through the local car wash on the way home!

Interesting day for me, I set off with a group of about a dozen which contained Broomwagon, Tim, Cam, Jess, and a few other faces I've seen on various rides.
Nice and steady out to Crayke, then a group of racing snakes came past that made us all look like bollards. I couldn't help myself and jumped in with them. I shifted down about 4 sprockets at the back..Bonkers!! but good fun. When we got near Malton there was 3 of us left and I didn't fancy Birdsall with those two knocking lumps out of each other so I stopped for a coffee, and then rode back to York with Broomie, nice and steady.
Thanks to everyone who made it happen, and glad you got back OK Cam.

Ironic coming out of York as the 2 Irishmen in the group were complaining about the rain
while the Aussie didn't care a jot. The reality was of course that just a few weeks ago we were dreaming of wet and windy clubruns...
Anyways, good ride in the end at a nice clubrun pace, our group getting to Stockton in a smidge under 4 hours. Thanks for the company. Well organised start and great pasta at the finish.
Lots of scary group riding though. We tailed off the fast group on Wiggy road simply due to the spray and riders jumping in and out of saddles. Once we drifted backwards the sight made me wince - a group of about 20 taking up, at times, more than half the road. Now I know conditions weren't easy with the floods and crosswinds, but we looked a shambles and painted a rubbish picture of cycling to all the many passing motorists.
We've got to get this group riding thing nailed. Disciplined twos.

Rob the only time I complained was on the Wiggy Road when a passing car soaked myself and the Aussie from head to toe, if I wasn't wet already by that point, I certainly was for the remainder of the dayRob wrote:Ironic coming out of York as the 2 Irishmen in the group were complaining about the rainwhile the Aussie didn't care a jot.
Great day with a great bunch of lads that kept together throughout and managed to reel in some of those who set off in the first couple of groups.
Many thanks to the organisers once again and in particular for the change in the finish point - maybe it could be the finish point every year??
Also like to thank John C, Rob, Tony G and Darren N for a really enjoyably ride and I'm looking forward to getting out on the Sunday Club runs in the near future with you Rob

Well, if this was a ride to test fitness then I am not as fit (or indeed reliable) as I thought i was - and my bike certainly isn't!
Had a few mechanicals on the way - roads seem to be causing screws to jump out of my bike right left & centre, which is worrying - but fortunately no punctures & nothing major - main problem seemed to be my useless legs!
In all seriousness though, it was a great ride over a fantastic route, albeit a tough one in that wind - & with some good company too, that is until my 'team mates' abandoned me (you know who you are!).
Thanks to all, especially the organisers & the good food put on at the end - don't think I could have got back into York without it!

Sounds like your team mates were a right pair of cads, phew you'd never get me doing something like that.
Thanks to everyone who gave up their Sunday to put on the ride, even laid on proper Reliabilty weather, though I think it should have been about 10 degrees colder to make it the sort of weather that Rob and Paul feel truly at home in.
Thanks to everyone involved for making it such a fun day.
