Nick / Phil - I know you are right in principle and I don't want this to come across as criticsm of organisers who have my utmost respect for doing a thankless task - but perhaps there should be some sort of criteria? I mean filling the start sheet with the first 70 entries falling through the door is effectively closing the event early? Surely you should wait till the closing date and then see what you've got? Of course the other problem is it would then seem harsh to return someones entry after the closing date who had entered weeks in advance, but then its not like there's ever a local alternative these days you could enter instead - if there was over subscription wouldn't be a problem. I've always entered in the final week before entries closed - never really had a problem when I was racing as a 2nd cat with some reasonable performances on me entry form. But I didn't have any decent rides last year and now I'm a 3/V its looks like it might be a problem. Its just it seems as a club we get entries back regularly - Rob had more back last year than he actually rode - again probably not much on his entry form to impress the organisers. So maybe its not just a question of entering early?
Before anyone asks - yes I have organised open road races and time trials myself and would have waited until after the closing date to select the field had I had a full field.

Paul, i'm not saying it's right, just how it seems to be! IMO first come first serve seems the most fair because look at time trialling-if you enter an event on a good course and your previous time(s) aren't as quick as the other riders entering you don't get a ride. How the hell do you get a good time or a time at all if you're not let in? Same with BC points if that's what they would go off. Anyway... are you still ging to turn up to Wetwang?

Ive no BC points at all, no notable performances to speak of but I got into every race I entered last year. Organising races is difficult enough these days without having to piss around trawling through the entries at the last minute then send entries back etc, this is why I believe it appears a first come first served approach has been adopted, like Nick Im not saying this is right or how it should be but the days of entering at the last minute have long gone.

Agree with Nick, first come first served!!!! Especially with 2,3,4 cat races. Last year we had similar posts about early entries and entries being returned. Last year Wetwang had 120+ entries Im sure the organiser had enough work on without 'selecting' the best field. Who cares as long as your race is full. I can confirm I have received 2 entries for our own RR in August. Bottom line to me is bike racing is getting more and more popular combined with racers experiencing full fields and returned entries they enter events earlier and earlier. You got to do the same or miss out, has anyone had an entry returned when they ve entered 5 or 6 weeks in advance of the event?

PS Theres is a 50 odd mile LVRC event on the same day as Wetwang.
