errrmm, Mal, thankyou, but you flatter me too much! 3/4s of the way trying to sprint up Yearsley, I was pooped and realised that youthful exuberance and my fitness are somewhat out of kilter………took me ‘til Thirsk to recover!

Sounds like a fun w/e MTB-ing, I hope everyone is ok?

So, the Saturday Intermediate Group set off with 10 riders, armed with Kevin’s carefully planned route map, destination Thirsk: Stacey & Brian, Jon G, Annabel, Toby, Pete, Cath, Mal, PhotoBen and myself.

We happily flew along with tailwind, out via Farlington, Brandsby, Yearsley, Ampleforth, Wass, Coxwold, Sowerby to Thirsk. Mal was only out for a few hours, so turned for home after Yearsley. Café was a great choice by Kevin – good food & very welcoming of our rabble!

I am not proud of the fact that a few miles into the headwind home I realised that I hadn’t paid at the café! I can only think that I was preoccupied to find the correct route out of Thirsk on a busy Saturday afternoon. Embarassingly, once at home I contacted the café asking them how much I owed them, but received a very gracious reply from the owner telling me he was happy to offer my scrambled egg on toast ‘on the house’. I have replied that Rob or I will pay my arrears when we’re next in and that I would strongly recommend his café to any cyclists visiting Thirsk! I’ve also assured him that Clifton CC don’t make a habit of this criminal activity!

Headwind home, but some excellent work on the front by Pete, Brian & Ben (Cath kept telling me it was a sin to “covert thy neighbour’s Colnago”) and some tight formation 2s behind them, we made swift work of the route home.

An enjoyable ride, Thanks,
ClaireG

As said above, a very enjoyable intermediate ride to Thirsk. 70 miles door to door for me and possibly the last time I'll make it out for a couple of weeks.
Thanks to Claire for leading the group.

As said joined the intermediate group on Saturday to Thirsk. Brisk but comfortable pace. Must apologise to everyone for not doing my bit on the front on the way back but was conserving my energy for the ride home. You certainly notice the differnce when your on your own. I was flagging a bit with 3 or 4 miles to home but managed the extra 1/4 mile needed to get to the tonne.

Thanks Clare for an enjoyable ride.

Thanks Dave for the diagnosis. I was wondering what that yearning feeling was which disappeared last week when I purchased the Garmin 705. So for what its worth here are the stats for the day. Well ignore the bit to and from ny house obviously.
