Naaaaaah, take it from me as the epitome of grumpy that it doesn't. I've had as much pleasure (?) pootling up and around pyrannean cols that have arcane claims to fame such as col des morts (read In Search of Robert Millar) and obscure back roads randomly selected from maps as I have from Etapes. I doubt very much that you could experience a fantastic view along a valley to the peaks, which also included a soaring raptor, a dolphin and boars in a field, when you're trying to beat a cut off time. Rural France is a slow and different world and if you get the chance you really should try it.

This year's Etape is being strongly touted to include Mt Ventoux, with that stage being the penultimate stage of the TdF.

Having seen this years route I have decided to give it another crack in 2009. Therefore I have sent my entry off to Sports tours again to see if I get in.

I said after this yeas I wouldnt do it again but its funny how things change . I need something to look forward too and to train for as I'm not necessarily into the whole racing thing.

Plus I need to start geting back into the club run scence having not been since about June which was the Ron Kitching ride. Now its quietened down at work I should be able to join Kev's Sat Ride again which proved for me at least good base training over winter regularly doing nearly 100 mile from home.

By the way Dave C is it possible to bump into you again maybe on Ventoux!!
