Okay, here is a public service announcement.
When renewing, please print out the membership form from the website (the PDF version is the more compact one) and fill it in. You'd be amazed how many people's mobile number or "in case of emergencies" number gets changed during the course of a year without them telling me. Plus the form has a "what are you up to this year" section from which I collate basic statistics, so we can, as a club, say what proportion of our members commute, race, do MTB etc. Then add the cheque (or pay online) and a stamped, self-addressed envelope please. Life's too short to try to keep track of how many envelopes and stamps I end up using, so I end up paying for them all.
It's really not that hard. Come on folks. Come on Will.
Thankyou. End of announcement.

I'm all in favour of waiving Wills subscription for next 12 months
I appreciate it is a dangerous precedent but worth it in recognition of
1. Sterling performance last year
2. Excellent value for money on discussion board
Lets have a whip round
If 5 of us agree to add an extra squid to subs our hard up student friend can eat again
Actually on a more serious note it strikes me that if students do want to support another club during time away we could do worse than offer free 2nd claim membership?

I really don't want to come across as a grumpy old git but I'm afraid this is pushing all my wrong buttons. Will, printing out and posting one sheet of A4 (you can double-side it) will not destroy the planet any more than using electricity to power the computer you're reading this on.
The reason we've not switched to online membership details is that setting it all up and making it secure would take time, and all of the people who'd have to sort it out have limited quantities of it going spare. Arthur (who sorts the website) has a full-time job and a baby, I run my own business and would quite like to spend more time riding my bike, perhaps even on the road.
Right! It's nearly 11pm. I need a drink!

You're not. I agree, come on Will! Yes, if we were a business with a decent turnover we would have online forms, but we aren't. We are an excellently run local cycling club who focuses on cycling, not t**ting around. Arthur does an excellent job with the website for nowt, Phil does all the membership and pays for the stationery for nowt.
You've also had the following:
Number of posts offering advice: 638
Average time to reply to a post (mins): 11
Person hours spent offering advice: 116.97
Average hourly salary : £8.50
Value of advice given: £994.22
I think you're getting value for money for a fiver!
