Thanks for the help at Kirkham!
Hi, I want to thank everyone in Howard's ride who helped me when I came off my bike at Kirkham - it's very much appreciated!! I hit a large pothole just before the level crossing and was pitched onto the metal surface of the crossing. The prognosis is not too bad: bruised or broken ribs and soft tissue injuries to my left hip / pelvis area (thankfully nothing was broken there). I'm on quite heavy painkillers and can walk a little bit with a stick. Many thanks also to Ian Hagyard who brought some clothes to the hospital and gave me a lift home.
Blimey! Didn't know about that - sorry to hear you were hurt, Iain. Was this the same large pothole between the road surface and the concrete railway surround at the foot of the hill that claimed my front rim last year? The bloke in the signal box reckoned they never got fixed because the railway and the council couldn't agree who was responsible.. ..but this sounds serious enough to warrant a claim; are you pursuing it?
Hi Iain
Glad to hear it's not as bad as we thought it may have been (although still bad enough).
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Phil, it may well be the same pothole, the gent who lives opposite the signal box on the other side of the track and who was so helpful to us , blankets, cups of tea etc. said that they have been complaining about the condition of the road for months, if not years, hopefully something may get done soon.

Iain, sorry to hear about your mishap, hopefully you are beginning to feel a little less bruised by now, but take care these things always take longer than you think to mend. If I can be of any assistance then please ask, it seems from the other comments by your collegues on the ride that you had some friendly assistance from someone at the house nearby, would you like me to contact them with the clubs gratitude for the assistance offered ?
In the meantime please ensure that you check out any possible claim and then hopefully if you are a member of CTC use them to assist in making the claim, seems like you will need to check out both Network Rail & North Yorkshire CC Highways Dept. I do know a cycling contact at the former if you want me to speak to him I will,
Get Well Soon
