OK, so I'll start this week.
Haven't been out with the club this weekend as it was my mum's 70th birthday and so was due down in Nottingham (God's own country). Managed to get some exercise by riding down and meeting Claire and Siobhan there. It was 90 miles and needed to arrive by about 11am on Saturday, so was on the road before 6am, twiddling the old 68" fixed in a general southerly direction.
Not the most scenic of rides for a large part, but very pleasant through Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest.
Undid any good work by eating preposterous amounts of food - you know what mothers are like for feeding you up! Even Howard would have been impressed.
How did the rest of you get on?

There were 3 groups on Saturday - Kevin's peleton; Howard, Chris and Will heading for Helmsley via Sutton Bank; I went with Bernard, Cath, Dave, Stacey and Brian to Thirsk.
A select group on Sunday (Mike, Tim and myself) had a damp but enjoyable ride to Riveaux Abbey, stopping at the cafe in Nunnington.

In a moment of madness I agreed to take part in my first adventure race - how quick the date came round!!
Location: Blanchland, Northumberland. The weather couldn't have been better - cold but dry; the conditions equally as good - muddy but non-technical. The running equally muddy with some ridiculously located dibbing points up the sides of waterfalls and hanging over rivers. Feet didn't stay dry for long!
Excellent day out - full on racing for 5 hours.... Sign me up for the rest of the series now...

Was a nice change to have a ride back with the club after some weeks off, the route is on Garmin Connect, the trusty GPS got it perfectly
.
Was Howard, me and chris (I think he was called)
Had to climb sutton bank (I think it was called) and that was enjoyable but hard at the same time, 1000ft apparently!, I was surprised it certainly does not look that high, there was also about 20-30 TVR's zooming up it before we went for it. Stopped off at helmsley for food, I had some white chocolate and Turkish delight ice cream.
On way back there was some scary bits where the road was full of mud and I could feel myself slipping and the fact we where going 25mph through it kind of made it even more scary!!

As with Robert, I was otherwise engaged to miss the Saturday ride and so instead persuaded Cath that after her Saturday Club ride, then another 3hr non stop ride with me on Sunday would be really good for her (such a good friend - I'm always thinking of her fitness!).
Our 3 hour window on Sunday afternoon was a rather bleak, drizzly, grey affair which very quickly gave way to a bleak, drizzly and black affair.
Surprisingly, we quite enjoyed our ‘utilitarian’ Howsham - Gally Gap – Malton – Coneysthorpe – Terrington loop. It’s funny how in the dark and bad weather, I often find it easier to fall to my known-distance routes, in part to merely reduce the amount of thinking required!
How Cath found the legs to 2-up at the end in the cold and dark after her long ride on Sat, I’m not sure, but our efforts certainly got us home in a respectable time and with that cosy warm glow.
Hoping to make a daylight ride this Saturday – Claire
