Thought I would start this week with a report on the club run.
5 riders at the square-me,Nick,Will,Ian and 2nd timer Matt.
We went out over the tollbridge to Ripon and on to Masham where Ian headed home climbed Jordens, had a cafe stop at How Stean Gorge, climbed Yorks Folly and back in to York for 5pm via Duck Street,Bland Hill, Kirby Overblow and Wetherby.
Heading out into the headwind it was overcast and we had a long downpour but once in the dales it became a beautiful clear day and we were rewarded with wonderful views especially at the top of Yorks Folly.
The one way system in Ripon has been changed again and we ended up on the A road to Masham for about 3 or 4 miles before we could turn of.It wasn't
to bad but have to find a city centre plan.If you come back through Wetherby and want to avoid the town there is a tarmac cycle track which takes you out past the racecourse and on to the Wighill road.

On Friday, I stopped off in Beverley on the way home to watch the road racing championships, and saw a Clifton rider in the Cat 3/4 event.
The Elite race was something else, on a fantastic tight circuit through Beverley town centre , including a section of cobbles.
The race was won by Dean Downing, who just held on after going away 2 laps out, from Rob Hayles who was finishing like a train. Another metre and he had him.
The average pace over 70 minutes plus 5 laps was put at @34mph. Simply incredible to see it whizz past you.
On Saturday, I missed the group at the square, so went off on my own and did the reliability route in a mix between heavy rain and blistering sun. Came home wet and sunburnt, which was all a bit bizarre.
Then went out last night for a couple of hours to turn my legs over but ending up doing more than I planned as I felt reasonably good.

Rode to Filey and back on Sunday with my two mates who are doing the C2C with me on August Bank Holiday weekend.
Very slow ride due to the fact that Dave had not trained at all this year.
Then when nearly home on the Hill between Gate Helmsley and Stockton Forest I decided to get out of the saddle and really go for it up the hill only for my back wheel to lock up looking down I saw my waterproof had fallen from my rear pocket and got itself wrapped round the chain etc, resulting in the Rear derailleur hanger shearing off and the Rear Derailler getting twisted in the spokes damaging the Derailler and throwing the rear wheel out of true, Ouch!
So its now at doctor Nigles in Haxby.

Did the Grimpeurs des Wolds on Saturday along with Bernard and Jason. The event started in Beverley and headed north via Middleton on the wolds, Dalton, Huggate, Wetwang, Sledmere, Fimber to the 1st Feed station.
The routes split and I went on the 100 mile route taking in some familar roads/climbs including Wharram, Birdsall, Thixendale, Kirby Underdale, Hanging Grimston, Leavening, Leppington, Acklam, then down to Buttercrambe. Tagged onto a group who towed me on the flat section via Stamford Bridge, Full Sutton, Bishop Wilton back to the hilly bits and a fast run back to Beverley. It was quiet enjoyable and well run run except the odd arrow problem.

7 riders set out from the square forming Howard's group on Saturday. According to our leader we weren't going far but we would be keeping up a good pace. The route went up Acklam, down to Malton, then across to Terrington, down and up Dalby, through Easingwold to Raskelf cafe (where we briefly met Kevin's party), then home.
A reasonably intense pace ensured that legs were given a good workout even if the round route back to York only amounted to 70 miles. Once back in town I headed off home but I believe Howard escorted Jonathan back to Pock.
