Bank Holiday Weekend Round up

Rode Batley CC's Road Race at Hartshead Moor (close to the services). 14 laps of a 5 mile circuit. The headwind was coming from at least 3 directions - the other being down hill. I can report a bunch finish by yours truly despite instigating a break which got across to the lead group at half distance and stayed away (the guy behind me came blasting through after I'd pulled them clear of the bunch with the rest of the group on his wheel and I couldn't close the gap). A good workout nontheless and I was pretty wasted over the last few laps so not too disappointed.
2 groups set off from the square on Saturday morning - Howards group was made up of his hardcore social riders plus quite a few wanting a shorter non-stop ride.
Our group went with Kevin - great to see some new faces, especially more women - we'll be in the majority soon!
We took an excellent route to Sledmere on some really nice quiet roads, met up with Howard & Co at the cafe before heading off home via Millington.
I'd got just over 70 miles in door-to-door.

5 Dales - Set off with the intention of taking it easy and Tan Hill with a following wind was pleasant; however wind soon put paid to that plan thereafter. Came perilously close to getting off and walking up Park Rash as no one was about either to see me or to offer some shelter. Finished in a respectable time after gritting my teeth through the last 30 miles.
Nothing bike-related - apart from purchasing some ITM Olympus bar extensions, see below - to report from the weekend itself, but have been busy either side of it. I've ridden a couple of local clubs' evening 10s on the same course for 3 weeks in a row, getting some improvement every time; I clocked 15th place out of 19 in 28m 27s last Thursday - by no means earth-shattering, but it wasn't the easiest course around, and I was a good 1m 20s faster than the first attempt. See bottom R/H corner of the 22nd May section of this page for pic of me in the new club kit;

Based on this, I'm hoping for better things in my last two TTs of the summer on the flatter, faster local course I rode at the end of April, so much so that I've finally invested in a set of tri-bars, so hoping for a couple of decent results to round off the summer!
Went for a non-stop 40-mile loop on local roads yesterday as I was still off work (an advantage of working in the schools sector!) - very, very damp but hugely enjoyable even in my transparent "Birds Eye" [1] rain cape. Nice quiet roads, too, even including the A-roads, which always makes for more pleasant riding in any weather.
