Product recommendations - map trap & mini pump

Post by BroomWagon »

Anyone recommend a bar mounted map holder - suitable for Audax/LEJOG rides. Also anyone recommend a good mini pump that you can actually get road pressures with and will still fit in a back pocket.

Don't think you'll really find any mini pump that can pump a road tyre to a decent pressure...only one adequate enough to get you somewhere with a track pump. however I imagine your best bet would be a co2 pump with a few canisters, they can go up to and beyond 100psi i believe

You can get mini pumps that will do 120psi. Blackburn do some that claim "160 psi" and they will do 120. I was gutted when I lost mine.

I use the Top Peak Mini-pumps - they are OK to get 80 PSI but it would take ages to get significantly more!

The cannisters work.
I also take full length pump which fits along my cross bar.It fits so well I sometimes think that I have left home without it.

I've got one of the rather funky Crank Brothers minipumps, which has a pressure gauge and high-pressure/high-volume settings which sort of work. It's still one hell of a lot of effort in comparison with a track pump but it does get tyres up to ride-able pressures eventually (though I'm usually too weak to hold the bars afterwards!)
