Riders' Xmas Dinner

Post by Rob »

I've provisionally booked a very big table in the Sun Parlour Cafe in Ripon for

Saturday 8th December

Everyone welcome. Grand depart from the Square at 1000.
Sit down at 1300.
Ride back may finish in the twilight/dark so you'll need some lights.

Its a full monty Xmas nosh for £12. I'll need your choice in advance:

Xmas punch on arrival
Pea and ham soup or spinach and cheese pasties
Turkey or beef or veggy nut roll (all with the usual trimmings)
Xmas pud or blackberry cheesecake
Tea, coffee and mince pies.

I really could do with knowing numbers by next weekend. Please email, pm or just reply below to let me know.

Hope you can come - just ask if any questions.

......and nearly forgot:

Paul M and I were discussing the above on the ride today. We have an embryonic idea to do a parent and kids ride in to Ripon starting in, say, Borobridge. Childseats, trailer-bikes, tandems, solos - whatever - maybe you'll join us.

Suggestions to improve this idea are welcome!

Good idea re the family thing. I can probably contribute a wife and 2 children to the crowd assuming no diary clashes

PS. ? is this worth a separate thread to avoid confusion with Xmas Nosh responses.

Re Xmas Cafe thing, does anyone know if Kevin is planning on his social ride joining in? If so then I'll likely be there.

Fear ye not, Kevin is planning on joining the ride, so you won't miss him!

I need definite numbers this week as I have to confirm the booking and pay a deposit. I don't need any money from you all yet ( I may ask our honorary treasurer to pay the deposit and I'll collect the money on the day). So, all I need from you is a commitment at this stage.

Spread the word.

We have a table booked for 23 at Spa Gardens in Ripon for 1pm on Saturday. I’ll be meeting Gill in Boroughbridge to ride with the kids for a rendez-vous in Ripon. Meanwhile, I suggest the main peleton aim for a 1000 (prompt) start from the Square. Claire has committed to lead a steady group via a no-nonsence route direct to Ripon. If you fancy riding faster or training then I’d suggest you arrange another group amongst yourselves, maybe via the forum.

With a sit-down of 1pm I wouldn’t expect us to be leaving before 2-30 so lights will be a necessity for the last few miles.

I’ve paid a deposit on the table so it will be easiest if I pay the balance on the day and you pay me individually. It’s £12/head for adults – not sure what the kids’ meals cost, but will find out.

Any questions – give me a shout.

Hello - We could do with making the 10am depart for my group exactly that!

10-15 / 10-20 just leaves some of us no lee-way for punctures etc.....

So those wanting a chat 1st, please get there for 9-50am coz I would like to be turning the pedals by 10-05 latest.

Hope that's ok, but it takes the pressure off the steadier riders (ie. me) to get to the cafe in time!

Thanks
Claire

For what it's worth, tomorrow's forecast on the Met Office website has done one of those last-gasp character transformations and gone from grey cloud with two big raindrops to white cloud with peeping sun. Praise be! Let's roll at ten!

Quick, make mental note now: never to follow Phil's weather forecasts!

Those of us who enjoyed the ride to Ripon yesterday will know that 'white cloud and peeping sun' were but hallucinations!! And such a great advert for sport, fitness & good health: I think everyone had either had, did have (or was going to get!) a cold!!

However, in spite of the cold persistent rain, a merry ride was had and 23 of us enjoyed an enormous & tasty feed at the cafe.

Maybe a 'Xmas' dinner ride in July next year...........

Thanks to all for good group riding and to Rob for organising.
