Weekend roundup 30/31st March

Post by bernard turgoose »

The K ride tried out a new cafe as posted by John Clark a few weeks ago, at Weaverthorpe. Out via Howsham, Leavening, Burythorpe, A tough climb before Birdsall and then over to Wharram le Street and Duggleby, We’d lost Chris Rose who shot ahead after the climb into Leavening village so Mark Finch went to find him from Birdsall. So when we traveled through West Lutton we expected to see them both, but not anywhere to be seen even at the cafe. So with the magic of telephoney we found that they had forgotten the change of cafe and gone to Sledmere, which was Finger busy with a one hour wait, so they rode down to Weaverthorpe and arrived in time to get their orders placed, before an Airedale Velo bunch came in on their annual Rawdon to Scarborough 103 mile ride.
But the cafe was good just as John Clark said, as well as being reasonably priced. We returned via Sledmere, then Fimber, Burdale, Thixendale, Uncleby and Buttercrambe with 70 plus miles done and over 3500 feet of climbing on a fantastic day weather wise enjoyed by Julia, Mark Briggs who did some sterling riding on the front of the 5 strong peloton.

Sunday ride, just 5 takers, headed traditional route north, White Horse Bank and the Hawnby Mountain Road. Cafe in Osmotherley closed for a few more weeks, so on over another hill to the Rusty Bike in Swainby. New route home via the A19 underpass, then a muddy track to Knayton Lane. On through Sutton and Crayke. Fabulous bright, cool day. 155km, and 1900m of climbing. Nice buzz in the legs afterwards. Thanks to Rebecca, Anthony, AndyT and Steen for company.

This Sunday; Filey (tbc)
