Weekend Roundup

What have you all been up to then? We've been on holiday in Shropshire all week - fantastic cycling down there - got out before breakfast for 90mins almost every morning. Remarkably there's some 500+m hills and some savage gradients, all under blue skies and fabulous autumn colours.

Anyway, back to York and there were just 3 stalwarts out today (Andy S, Antony and self). Where were the rest of you, turn up at 0800 by mistake? Headed east for Driffield. Great route on quiet lanes. It was wet, but not very - cape on or off? Brightened up after cafe. 83 miles door to door. Good ride.

Too busy with work to do much, but got out for just over a couple of hours first thing Saturday. Steady ride, getting used to winter brain-in-neutral mode again. Next year's training programme starts next month!

Caths parents had offered to baby-sit today so we had a rare ride together. Set off about 10ish so missed the heaviest of the rain. Headed out to Hutton Le Hole via Castle Howard for an early cafe and then went up to Cockayne via Gillamoor and back from Helmsley up the B road. Rain on & off for the first couple of hours but dry & sunny after the cafe and great Autumnal views round the Cockayne loop. 75 miles & home for 4:45.

I was "volunteered" for some decorting on Sunday so joined the Saturday social ride instead. 9 (I think) of us took in Strensall, Farlington, Stearsby (?), Yearsley, Ampleforth, Coxwold, Hampthwaite, lunch at the farm shop at Raskelf, Tholthorpe, Aldwark, Beningborough. Good weather, good company, good day out.
