Five of us for the Sunday Club Run this week Andy.G, Rebecca and Self from the Sq. Picking up Muzzy and Neil.S as we made progress from York. Any frost had lifted from the roads by the time we got out to the countryside but you still needed a bit of baggy winter kit to keep the chill off. By the time we got to the top of White Horse Bank it felt like time to take a layer off. However within a couple of miles along the ridge cooler conditions and a headwind had picked up. Once again happy with that baggy winter kit. Clear conditions gave great views of the moors and Hawnby Hill. Muzzy took a right at the bottom of Chicken Bank the rest of us pushed on to Osmotherley. Only to find the cafe closed until mid February. Without that kind of time on our hands we opted for the shop. Found enough to sustain us and consumed our pies and sandwiches in the winter sunshine on benches outside the shop. Near the 'Not a Poo Bin' which makes you wonder about the rest of the bins in Osmotherley.

Over the A19 taking the swift route back via Borrowby, Upsal and Sutton retracing our earlier route in from Kilburn. Back in York at 3.15 with 136 km to the good. Enjoyed the days ride. Always good to be out in such glorious weather and fantastic roads with a few folk who know what a day out on a bike is about.

Enjoy your Presentation Evening unable to be with you. However Rob and Andy can pick up any silver that has my name on it. Two of them should manage don't you think ?

Nine on the Saturday Inters ride to Pateley: Dave C, Rich, James, Dr Joe, Jon G, Craig, Graham, Ian W and self. The lanes were a bit wet and muddy on the way out towards Ripon - ensuring some splattered faces (perhaps a few of us could consider reviewing the adequacy of their mud-flaps to address this - self included :D ). The skies cleared as we climbed up through Galphay and then over the moors with clear views over the Dales and we were soon plunging down Church Lane into town for lunch.
As both Rich and Dave C had birthdays a few days apart this week, some cakes with candles were ordered and a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday ensured that the cafe's clients were entertained.
As is always the case with lunch in Pateley, the legs were sorely tested on the climb out - this time via Yorke's Folly, before descending home via Dacre, Darley, clint Bank and Markington. Apart from James who was given leave to speed ahead, the remainder all rolled into town with almost 85 miles covered on a lovely bright day. many thanks to all for the company.
Incidentally, as it's the day of the Club dinner next week we are probably best off having a slightly curtailed ride to ensure a reasonably early return so will plan for this if that's OK. :)

Keep pedalling!
