W/e Roundup 29/30th Oct

Post by ClaireG »

Last w/e of BST (for Sat riders  ) and an enjoyable autumnal ride on a mild & dry day.

K&J riders combined out from the square and then Julia led the way up Howsham for a Malton route with her group of Danielle, Chris and MarkF - hope you all had a good ride.

9 of us (Dawn, Steve, MarkB, PeteS, Craig, ChrisR, DaveI'A, Rebecca and self) turned for Crambe, Kirkham, Westow, Burythorpe, Birdsall, WleStreet, Kirby Grind and over to Sledmere café, now a regular on our lunch stop menu.

65 miles by home after returning via Life Hill & Millington Pastures.

Good company, good autumn colours, long may it last.........see you next week, Claire

Great route out to Sledmere with the K Riders on Saturday, with a couple of tasty little climbs I'd not been up before. Glorious autumnal colours and good company. Added bonus in the cafe of getting the last piece of Victoria sponge which "wasn't quite big enough to cut into two pieces" - result! Well done Claire for choosing and leading the ride.

The Intermediate Saturday group rode out to Pateley Bridge via Boroughbridge, Ripon, Winksley and over the moors. James, Ben, Jon G, John B, Graham, Dave C, Dr Joe, Tony and self. Dave C had to get back so turned off at Boroughbridge; the remainder enjoyed dry roads to a pleasant lunch. Unfortunately this was immediately followed by climbing Yorke's Folly which is steep in places especially on a full stomach. From here though the undulating route via Birstwith, Scotton, Aldwark Bridge and home was straightforward apart from a profusion of hedge trimmings causing Graham to puncture nr Marton. 90 miles for me, cheers everyone :D
Keep pedalling!

Sunday Clubrun had a trip to Hawnby. SteenNav took us up a lane behind the church in Helmesley that follows parallel to the Bilsdale Road but to the east. This climbed steadily for several miles before a sharp dip into some Forestry Commission land. A sharp left turn onto a hard-packed track that contoured us round to the lower slopes of Newgate Bank. Breathtaking vista to the north across Bilsdale. You should try it.

More traditional route back via the descent of Boltby Bank and Sutton. Great autumnal ride at a nice even pace. Back home before 3pm with just under 130k on the clock. Thanks chaps.
