SPOCO TT 2016 Planning meeting 7pm Thursday 3rd December

Post by DavidShort »

Hi Folk's

How's about we hold the above meeting before we tied up with the Christmas festivites? Greg suggested we could use the Knavesmire pub in the Southbank. Let me know if this date would suit and who intends attending. Key things are;

Courses
Insentivising marshalls
Encouraging new competitors.

Kind regards David

Likewise guys I would have liked to have made this meeting but it is also a night I cannot make. Although I've not been involved in the evening series for the past few seasons its something I have been very much involved with previously as both rider and organiser for many years. I think I can take some personal responsibility for the courses we are using now and the "symmetrical" program that has been used for the past decade or more. There is some history with all this and it was seen as an alternative to the time trial league we had been involved in with Leeds based clubs who were organising fast events on dangerous courses. So we decided to run these as an alternative.
Personally I'm still not sure there is much wrong with the series as it is - participation and qualification numbers are ok? It should satisfy the majority of the club who want fun events on quiet roads. I was never keen on the 10 circuit as a rider or organiser - takes far too much resource - the Bulmer circuits are much better & the hills surely actually level the playing field a bit and only 3 corners on the Ganthorpe circuit!
This may reduce the numbers a bit but do you really want 40 riders every week - these aren't open event that are being organised. I bet there aren't many clubs lucky enough to be able to run a series on roads like these and it offers a great intro to cycle sport generally rather than just into time trialling.

Indeed, agree with Paul totally.
Please, please, please remember that these events are the first time most riders put a number on their backs, and as such need to be seen as safe and accessible. Whatever courses you want to use, please keep it out there in our wonderful Yorkshire lanes. Resist the temptation to chase "times" and lorries.

Good luck with the meeting, and once again Dave, thanks for organising all this.
