Weekend Round-up 19th/20th Sept

Post by Dr Dave »

After a couple of weeks off the bike with back pain I managed to get out with the 8.45 ride to Brimham Rocks on Saturday, joining Mike, Gerard, Damian, Pete P and ? Martin ??? Following reports of the exemplary fitness of the regulars on this ride I was somewhat concerned that I would be dropped at some point but I needn't have been concerned - apart from feeling that I was a slight drift-anchor to the group on the final rise to Brimham the pace was fine. On a bright, clear, still autumn morning the scenery was a pleasure especially the view at the T junction above Brimham over towards Pateley and Nidderdale. All in all a really good morning's ride - although my back did start to give me 'a bit of gyp' in the final third of the ride.
I can heartily recommend this ride to anyone who wishes to get a good few miles in on Saturdays without being out all day. The pace, although brisk, is by no means 'crazy' and the regulars were all to happy to ease off when necessary to keep the group together. Many thanks guys :)
Keep pedalling!

This could end up reading like a police witness statement with all the comings and goings of the day.

Sunday Club Run to Langdale End Dalby Forest Drive.
We started with six in the Sq New guy Matt,AndrewNG,PeteP,TimJ,Simon and self.
Just after Buttercrambe we gained PaulW. At Malton Matt headed home to York as he only had limited time.
The roads were more busy than normal for a Sunday until we got off the A169 and onto the lanes for Snainton and left after the Peacock Pub. I decided on this route to make navigation simple and to put most of the miles in before the cafe stop. We kept the group together up the long climb before gaining TonyG on the decent. This is the best part of the ride. Very quiet roads with views that are worth the effort of the hills. Though the Dalby forest drive. By which time TonyG had gone off into the distance. At Thornton le Dale Andrew and I were ready for something to eat in the Cafe. However the others timj PeteP Simon and PaulW decided to push on for home.
So I am not sure if Andrew and I were the Club Run at this point or the four that went up the road. Anyhow after our stop we continued using the bridleway though the farm yard and onto Kerby Misperton, Amotherby, Castle Howard and back to York for just past 3pm with 89 miles done. I had time to visit Go Outdoors where I purchased as lasso -no escape next time !
