Last year Dave C and I had a day out using the car to take us plus bikes to Keighley where we had a ride taking in some of the cobbled and steep climbs in the area. One of the climbs we tackled was named Lee Lane, however in cycling lore this is known as The Shibden Wall. The name tells you all you need to know - imagine Rosedale Chimney but consisting of large cobbles with yawning voids in between and you get the idea (there are You-tube videos for those of you intrigued enough to investigate).
Since then I've been contemplating a ride out from York to re-visit this climb and to take in some different roads to our usual 'trade routes'. Not all the roads to get there and back are quite as rural as our usual fare but there are some worthwhile and different sights on the moors between Otley and Halifax. I've worked out that a route to the climb and back is just about 100 miles - so manageable - although inevitably this passes through a few suburbs of Bingley as well as the moors south of Ilkley.
If anyone thinks they'd like to do this ride - this applies to anyone, not just the usual Saturday riders - could they post here - alternatively if folk think they definitely wouldn't be up for this can they also profer their views.
An alternative plan would be to use motorised transport (train or car-share with roof rack?) out to somewhere and ride some Pennine roads from a starting point nearer there. Holme Moss anyone?

With reference to your proposed rides around West Yorkshire Dave it did cross my mind whilst doing the tour de Yorkshire ride whether it would be possible to do the route from York as the route we did went out and returned through otley and pool . You could simply pick up the route after going through wetherby for example . The sportive was 86 miles from round hay park it must be maybe 110ish miles from York. It's was a tough ride though with plenty of steep hills
but feasible I think. Obviously you tweek the route as necessary to suit

Sorry gents I should have read your posts before posting on the weekend roundup, but I'm also planning a Shibden wall ride. My route would be the usual route out, Wetherby, Sicklinghall, Pool, Shipley, back roads to the wall and then attempting to find a relatively flat route somewhere Brighouse, Dewsbury, Pontefract, Monk Fryston, Cawood. No idea how far it would be but definitely over 100, so I was going to ride on my own first so people knew what they were letting themselves in for, perhaps for a challenge ride next year with a Saturday and Sunday version.

This sounds like it would make a good challenge ride I would try and make myself available.
