Inters/A Group Route Suggestions - June 6th

Post by Tony »

Per Dr Dave in last weekends roundup;
I think I'm out again next Saturday so will give some thought to a route - am wondering vaguely about Masham, Coverdale, Kettlewell and back via Pannal and Tockwith (although possibly a bit far at 110 miles?). If anyone else has the urge to choose a suitable parcours - around 100 miles of scenic, quiet roads with a cafe approx half-way - feel free to post on here :D .
Since the forecast is currently warm, sunny and dry, how about a trip to the coast?

Whilst I don't have a route in mind, many of the regulars know their way to Filey and Bridlington. Any takers for a beach run?

Other suggestions welcome...

Looking at the current forecast for fairly strong westerlies I would second Dr Dave's suggestion of Coverdale. It is a long ride at 110 miles but the roads out to Masham are flattish so if we ride well as a group it should not be too bad into the wind. We could lunch in Grassington, then get the tailwind home.

If enough riders turn up this weekend it may be sensible to have 2 groups.........

I'd be up for ride to the coast as tony suggests and would propose a second group as per Dave if enough riders . I don't want to start a whole discussion about prevailing winds. Unless it's an absolute gale blowing you'd be very limited where we go if we followed the forecast every week :wink: . I'm used to long rides but personally I'd prefer something no more than 100 miles you've got to draw the line somewhere :D everybody would top a tonne if we ride to Filey for example depending on route.

Just realised the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride is on Saturday so 2000 cyclists will be riding from Wetherby to Filey.........
Might be best to go to Brid or Scarborough if a coast trip is contemplated.

Well spotted Dave. Might be best to avoid those roads then and head west anyway. Not sure if I'll be up to a really long ride though on a selfish note as ive not ridden for a couple of weeks :(

If the Coverdale ride is stretching the distance a bit far how about heading to Bolton Abbey via Otley and Ilkley returning via Pateley bridge and past Brimham rocks. Should be spot on 100 miles.
