TT SPOCO series- First event 21st May- Cancelled?

Post by DavidShort »

Hopefully not, BUT, as yet no one has volunteered to organise, time keep etc. I have only one marshal, Thank you Steen!
Without the appropriate support for the events we can't run them. The risk assessments and current state of UK litigation means that the club would be seriously compromised if anything happened and it could be shown that we cut corners by not having adequate safety measures in place.

How about if we introduce a 'buddy' system so that anyone apprehensive about organiser duties has someone who has done it previously to assist?

As a starter for 10 and in my capacity as TT sec' I will happily 'buddy organise' the first event on the 21st. However, I will need someone to collect the signs etc as I live out at Yearsley and only have a small mini car which won't carry all the stuff.

Come on fellow Cliftonites, step up to the mark! :)

I've put my name down(along with Ian h) to organise 1st Coneysthorpe event plus marshal another one. It's easy, just go to the spoco Thursday section and click on the spreadsheet link and put your name down. It's easy and good fun to organise/marshal.

Cheers

Hi Dave, I really wanted to ride this first one which I usually marshal as I am unable to ride the last "flat 10" at the end of the series I'm down to joint organise one TT as usual with Dave Cook if you get enough marshals on the night I will happily be the pusher off and ride last and will help at another in the series later.

Come on guys like Dave has said these can only go ahead with the right cover.

Many thanks Dr Dave, Dave C and Ian H, much appreciated. Ian, I know you and Dave are organising an event, many thanks, and if you can't make the last '10' then you should do the first one. I will help 'organise' the first one if it comes to it though I've trained up for it but the club comes first so happy to forgo the first '10' rather than risk it not going ahead.

At the very least we owe it to our up and coming younger members to ensure the events go ahead.

Waiting with baited breath!! :D :D

Well go on then, organisation is not really my speciality but I'll throw my name in :D

David - do you have all the gear at the mo (or do you know who has it please)? And is there a 'what to do' list with it? I marshalled a couple of times last year but never got round to organising one so this is relatively new ground for me, but I'm sure nothing can go wrong!

cheers, martin

Dave
I've put my name down for the 21st May but maybe a bit late getting there after a meeting in Milton Keynes - also I have added my name down for 25th June; and all the July dates.
Currently I am not sure about the 4th June due to a possible meeting in Southampton during the afternoon that day, if it changes I will let you know, the 11th & 18th I am on holiday so no luck there for you, so who else can assist in time keeping?

Many thanks Bernard, We now have the season opener with enough to staff the manage the event safely. I'm very grateful to the club stalwarts to ensure these events can go ahead.

C'mon folks lets get that spreadsheet fillied in!

Kind regards David :D :D

Well done Dave for taking on the organisation of this series. Quite a sad state of affairs that chasing up marshals from a field of riders that have to marsal in order to qualify always seems so difficult! When I organised this series I dont remember it being quite such a problem and that was when the club was much smaller. But the difference then was we had a much bigger team of stalwarts who turned out week in week out and the general membership just seemed to muck in more. However 11 or 12 years ago the Spoco series was on a Tuesday night and there were no other distractions. It was moved to a Thursday to draw riders away from a Thurday league time trial series on the A64. Food for thought maybe as we have a road race league on a Thursday which draws riders away and I think there should be more crossover anyway with the competitive disciplines?

Talking of which was the club aware that there is an evening road race on Thursday the 28th May at Sheriff Hutton starting at 19:00 (although not one the club is organising) the same night as the Bulmer / Ganthorpe TT - so expect it to be busy on that roundabout? Should we be more joined up?

Many thanks to Martin for volunteering to 'organise' this first event in the series. Craig has offered to assist in 'organiser' duties , we have some marshalls and Bernard has kindly offered to timekeep. We are on!

Martin, All the signs, folders etc are at Dave I'Ansons and will need fetching to the event. In the 'box of tricks' there is a folder which has all the things you need including signing on sheets and dynamic risk assessmet forms. I have done all the generic risk assessments and was intending to get them in the folder but Billy has gone on leave so I have kept them and will put them in the folders on the night. I will be there in plety of time to help out so between the three of us we should have it sorted. I've sent you an email to your school e mail address with much the same info as this.

It also looks like the spreadsheet is filling up nicely . Many thanks everybody. Good point Paul about the clash of events, joined up thinking etc! Steep learning curve but we will get there!!

Kind regards David :D :D

Just a thought, should the title of this thread be amended to avoid the possibility of confusion re whether the event is going ahead?
