Le Tour Avec Clifton

Post by Rob »

So, I've created a bit of a monster here. The route I sketched out in my head in front of the fire in mid winter turns out, on closer inspection, to be a bit of a brute; 160 miles with 2500m of climbing thrown in for good measure.

The route - Vale of York to Middleham, Coverdale, Kettlewell, then follow Tour route round the best bit of Stage 1 over Kidstones, Buttertubs and Grinton Moor. Then at some point south of Leyburn we'll get off the Tour route and make a dash for home.

It is hard to judge how long this will take, but if pushed, my best guess would be 13 hours door to door. And that feels like getting a bit of a wiggle on....

So:
0800 prompt start from The Square
Cafes are going to be busy, so be prepared to wing it a little with the pit stops.
Lighting up time is about 10pm.... bring at least emergency LEDs!
Should be an adventure.

If you'd like a little less adventure, an alternative route would be to go into the Dales up Wensleydale and "just" climb Buttertubs and Grinton Moor. This will still be hearty 140 miles. If you fancy navigating round this version I can bring a map for you to The Square at 0800 on Sunday. Post here to let me know. I'm sure we can persuade Bernard to allocate some points for this version.

This will be one to regale the grandkids with and, hey, you'll be able to watch the race the week after and tell all around you that they (the pros) have it easy....... 8)
