8.45 Ride_Saturday 21st September

Post by Steve A »

Hi all,
it's likely I won't be out this week, owing to sore ribs from last week's accident.

As the summer is coming to an end it seems a timely moment to emphasise that this is primarily a social ride, with just 2 simple golden rules:
1) Stick together (regroup on hills & check everyone is on at junctions)
2) Follow the route (so that if people are accidentally dropped they have a chance of finding the group again)

For those lucky enough to make the ride, here's the proposed route.

It's a variation on the Malton loop, taking the right turn at Brieryend Wood to Leavening (rather than the left and right to Kirkham Abbey). On to Malton via Birdsall. Then straight on at the Coneysthorpe crossroads, down Terrington Bank towards Shefiff Hutton, right at the mini r'about, then left after the little bridge at Farlington to eventually end up on Pottery Lane into Strensall.

Here's the details:
Stockton Lane- Sand Hutton- Bossall- Leavening- Birdsall- Malton- Coneysthorpe- Terrington- Sheriff Hutton- Farlington- Pottery Lane- Strensall- Haxby (54 Miles)

Enjoy the ride, look after each other, and I hope to be out again very soon.

What happened Steve? Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for popping a route on again steve. Just to float an alternative since we've been heading North quite a bit how's about the route the training ride uses to the West which the 8.45 group last did 10 weeks ago or something like that. A few lumpy bits in the middle and a nice flat run in with a tailwind towards the end :D

Out via Bishopthorpe Road, Appleton Roebuck, Tadcaster, Bramham, Thorner, Barwick, Aberford, Sherburn, Cawood, Stillingfleet, and back to York through Fulford.

Thanks Paul. I know, I could have damaged my bike

That route looks like a good one for next week, thanks Mike.

Last week's incident was nothing major, but I ended up leaving the road to avoid an oncoming car on a narrow bend. I came down a bit hard, but I was on the soft stuff.
