Saturday 29th 8:45am Ride

Post by reubenbarrett »

I'm happy to lead this Saturday's ride again and I've put below my suggestion for route.

Bringing together some comments from other thread about last week, here is our mission:

1. This is a group social ride. We will aim to stay together through the ride and finish with as many riders in one group as we start.
2. Please use your voice to communicate and pass messages to the front ("slow down!"). If you are struggling, tell people as it is likely you're not the only one.
3. If you are feeling strong, either accept you will have a slower ride with this group or consider waiting for 9am training ride.
4. We will stop at junctions / hills to allow group to come back together if necessary and then allow the back markers a minute or two to eat/drink/recover.

This week I propose Strensall - Flaxton - Sherriff - Crayke - Easingwold - Wooden Bridge @ Gt Ouseburn (my highlight!) - Whixley - Tockwith - Rufforth. It is just over 50 miles with a few small hills in the first half. We should be back in the square before 12.

There is one dodgy junction on this route which I don't like at main road to Boroughbridge between Whixley and Thorpe Underwood (mile 34.5 on link). Please take care here as it's a fast road and poor sight lines at crossing.

Hi Stew

Depends on what time you have on Saturday I would always recommend the 10.00 am Kevin ride this includes a cafe lunch and Kev keeps the group together then I'm sure Kevin will very quickly assess what your ability/ fitness level is and advise you which ride you will fit into for the following week, don't be shy ask his advice what he thinks he may pull your leg a bit but he is a very experienced long standing Clifton member who has helped many newcomers to this club.
Once you start to find your ability level there are quite a few rides on offer to chose from.

Cheers

Hi

Thanks Ian for your reply - I was beginning to feel like " a voice in the wilderness ! " :-)

I think I will join the 10am group !

I am not new to cycling I have been riding with Seacroft for the last couple of years but I am looking for a more local club !!

Thanks again !
