Race organiser posts still available!!

Post by PhilBixby »

Following on from last night's OGM, I said I'd put something on here about the next season's race calendar and the race organiser jobs still needing names against them. Basically what we've got is:-

The North Yorkshire Evening RR League will run again pretty much as a repeat of this year. This would mean six events:-

16th May Bishopwood 4ths only - organised by Clifton
30th May Escrick 3rds/4ths - organised by Cycleworks
13th June Kirby Misperton 3rds/4ths - organised by Malton Wheelers
27th June Escrick 3rds/4ths - organised by Clifton
11th July Brandsby 3rds/4ths - organised by Cycleworks
25th July Kirby Misperton 3rds/4ths - organised by Malton Wheelers

So we need an organiser for 16th May please! RichT's taken on organising the 27th June (good man).

On Sunday 30th June we'll have the club RR day with a vets race in the morning and a 2nds/3rds/4ths BC race in the afternoon. I'm prepared to do race organiser role for both as long as (as per this year) others are happy to help/marshal - the format means that it's possible for you to do one race and marshal the other. However, if someone takes on the BC event then I can focus on the heavier (manual) paperwork involved with the LVRC event (Melly's already offered help with this).

Anyone for the BC event organiser's job?

Lastly, 2013 will also see the return of the York Cycling City Races. Timing / format is being discussed with the council and BC at the moment, but looks like being similar format to previous years with:-
• Brompton race
• Youth races
• Support race 3rds/4ths
• Elite race E/1/2 as part of the National crit series.

Date (subject to confirmation) will be Friday 19th July. This is the start of the final TdF weekend; assuming there’s plenty of media and public interest in this, it would be good to maybe do something that gets Joe Public involved – a Come & Try It TT on the Saturday? There will be a paid coordinator for the city centre event (unlike previous years) so the workload for the club should be lighter – hopefully similar to any other RR and with much less input into the logistics.

So in addition to helpers/HQ/marshals on the day we’d need an organiser for the YCCR races (Fraz can hopefully be persuaded to do the Brommie race, so that just leaves the serious stuff). If the CATI TT is going to happen, someone needs to take that on.

If you'd like to have a crack at one of these, please post below (or PM me if any queries). As I said at last night's meeting (and as I hope Cam would confirm after running this year's two evening events) now the BC online entry system is working smoothly it's a relatively painless process, plus I'll give plenty of help and pass on notes/checklists etc from previous years. It gets you an insight into how races happen, and gets you brownie points with BC and other event organisers. Form an orderly queue please...

Do you need to be a BC member to help with BC races?

Sounds like a pub quiz question! As I understand it... ...you need to be a BC member to be organiser, or to drive a car in the race convoy. Other than that, no. And some of the best cakes have been baked by non-BC-members.

I'm happy to lend a hand for the city centre races as a minimum.

Yes Phil...Absolute doddle! Can't imagine how onerous it must be to bank cheques, shuffle forms about, etc. The online system is great. I'm no IT expert.....If I can do it anyone can :D
