Weekend Roundup 10/11 Nov

Post by RichardD »

Sunday ride with Rob + 7. With Rob in the role of Snow White we trooped out under beautiful clear blue sky towards Cottingham via Millington, Skidby and returned through Howden and Barmby on the Marsh. Some interesting off road stuff near Barmby (the clue is in the name) dodging cow pats. Cafe stop at the fancy caravan park was just in time and the bacon, sausage, egg, black pudding special set us up nicely for the slight headwind home.
I do not have an odo or speedo on the winter bike so not sure about the figures, but it felt like I was close to draining the tank as we entered York. A good day out.

Sunday ride for me also. Great route, great company and 101 miles door to door.

My longest ride ever, beating my previous by nearly 30 miles. 8)

Saturday’s K group did 60ish miles to near Market Weighton. Great autumn scenery was enjoyed by Nick, Graham, newcomer Joe, John C, Steve & Dawn, Kevin, Bernard T, Stuart, Dave B, Tony G, other Tony and Mark.

It’s an easy time of year for us non-racer types. Forget unbuttered toasted tea cakes- an extra couple of kilos will soon appear on the bathroom scales. But comfort is had by the thought “I’ll get back into shape in Spring”.

There was a crash too. My bike hit a patch of diesel and slid away… whilst doing nearly 10mph through the car park of the café stop. Thankfully didn’t bring anyone else down.
But please be careful when racing through a café stop car park to get your food order in before others in the group. The speed limit is 5 mph for a reason.

No riding this weekend due to traveling home from Morocco!
Just had a week with Simon from Freeride-Morocco and some of the best mountaing biking ever, furiously technical and unbelivably exposed!

For a fantastic experiance and a great adventure, Freeridemorocco is highly recomended: http://www.freeridemorocco.com/

Sunday ride for me also. Destination Raywell which isnt so much a destination as a cafe. Now I always think of the Southern Wolds as a bit of a soft ride but this had a bit of everything - roads with grass growing up the middle of them, a few drags, many long, long flat bits with little wind (thankfully) but little rest and Barmby Barrage which wasnt a road at all but a couple of miles riding along a grass bank! Eight starters, eight finishers, no fuss, no dramas except for sitting outside at the cafe IN NOVEMBER and Rob not finishing his pudding. 100 and something miles for me - longest ride of the year. Not too sure on the normalised power stats but I knew I'd had a ride climbing the stairs when I got home!
