Training for the Training Ride, Sat 27th
Aiming to race next year but don't know your half-wheeling from your evens? Wondered what all that shouting in the bunch was about but afraid to ask? Say goodbye to ooops-brought-the-whole-bunch-down misery once and for all with the Saturday before the Saturday Training Ride Training Ride!
Okay folks... ...for those of you who are ready to move beyond the social rides and have seen enough toasted teacakes for 2012, the training rides will be kicking off on 3rd November. However, by popular demand (of the regulars who, it seems, don't want too much excitement on the first couple of rides) I said I'd do a ride this Saturday specifically for all who are either starting the training rides for the first time, or are un-confident in bunch riding or for whatever other reason feel the need to ease themselves into it gently.
We'll do the "southerly" of the training routes, which is pan flat and comprises a variety of types of road. We'll take it steady to ensure everyone sticks together and while (please God) it won't be a rolling lecture, we'll talk a bit along the way about etiquette, what makes a good winter training ride and what makes an appalling nightmare.
I'll get in before the usual suspects do and note that - winter being winter and s**t-covered roads being the norm, mudguards of some sort will save you a repeated tongue-lashing (and yes I've now got a blasted great "RaceBlade Long" with a flap the size of a shovel, before all the regulars start rolling their eyes). Other than that, as ever, watch the weather forecast and dress appropriately. I'd guess we're probably safe from snow this week but as we get into the bowels of winter, always check on here at the last minute to make sure rides are happening.
09:00 start outside the gallery - prompt please - and we'll be back by noon or very close to it.

Paul:- It's just over fifty miles. Route is York, Elvington, south to Howden, Hemingbrough, Skipwith, Thorganby, Wheldrake, Escrick, Stillingfleet, Naburn, and back to York.
Tobz! Excellent. I'm sure you've probably got a few residual brownie points given your amazing recovery so you should get away with it (for a week or two

Oh heck, I feel guilty now & a bit of a hypocrite as whilst I do have mudguards I don't have the 'full Musgrave'PhilBixby wrote:

Probably be out for training on the training for the training ride but the route's a bit flat for me

Sorry but I'm going to have to bail out of the Saturday pre training, training ride. Classic case of daughter diary disaster. I am having to take her to an open day at York St John's on Saturday. For weeks now she has confirmed to me that it will start at 1pm. Having pressed her to check again today, strangely enough it starts at 10AM! Pink Floyd had it right about education. See you next week where I will have to play catch up in every sense of the word. The weather looks like it is going to be a sparkler on Saturday too.

This is what happens when you mention training rides - its barely Autumn and its snowing! Not sure you should be holding my mudflap up in such high esteem its cut from a milk carton and held on with zip ties. Functional but not very pretty - a bit like me really.
I'm still detraining so not out this weekend. Wrap up warm in the morning guys - You dont get hard points for dressing down - just cold.
