Clifton Road Race Day, 15th July

Post by PhilBixby »

I'm kicking off a separate thread for this as it approaches.

We now have a full field in all the vets groups apart from the E/F/G/H race where there are still places (and no sign of a Clifton jersey as yet) so if any of you over-60's fancy flying the club flag, then let me know PDQ! We have nearly eighty entries in the afternoon BC 2/3/4 race so I'll be doing a hacking and slashing exercise on that next week to whittle it down to sixty plus reserves.

I still need helpers on the day, please. I've got a few volunteers already from the previous thread but still need more. Marshalling needs are relatively few since we'll have Community TM doing three out of the four junctions, but we still need a few people with flags. Mainly we need drivers (with cars) - BC members for the BC race, anyone for the vets race. You get insurance cover, roof signs and a great sense of power, plus money to cover petrol.

If those of you who are riding one or other event would be happy to help out at the other, then that would be excellent - I know a few have already put their hand up.

Ta!

Phil, I've sent you a PM, but I have no idea if there are still any problems with the forum. So if you haven't got it, let me know.

Thanks,
Andy

Many thanks for all PM's, emails and phone calls! It's looking good; now just need one driver each for the morning and afternoon (possibly if one of the people who has said they're generally available could step up to that one) and an extra marshal or two for the morning. Plus a couple of spare bodies is always handy - it's a flat circuit and if we don't have bunch sprints in all races I'll be surprised, so people at the finish to help make sense of it are handy.

For those of you planning to watch the Clifton Race next Sunday, keep an eye out for my car following the race- I'm hoping we'll have a Clifton rider on the front in the afternoon, and be treated to Phil 'Madiot' Bixby hanging out of the rear window screaming encouragement and looking like he's about to have a stroke

If you didn't see it, watch the last 3km of today's Tour stage- you'll soon see what I mean :D

[shameless plug]

Remember all who are marshalling, you can still get a ride in this weekend by doing the audaxes on Saturday.

Sorry Phil, I'd have offered to help but I'm doing my own 'bonkers' race that day

"..Phil 'Madiot' Bixby hanging out of the rear window screaming encouragement and looking like he's about to have a stroke"

I shall be doing unspeakable things with the lap board - it'll be like Dick Dastardly in the Wacky Races!

Okay... ...but seriously folks, we now have:-

-A full catering crew - many thanks Cath, Lisa and Hannah B
-Drivers for the LVRC race - Muzzy, Nigel, Broomwagon and Melly
-3 drivers for the BC race - Cam, Nigel and Melly. So, I need one more - it needs to be a BC member. Any volunteers?

-3 marshals for the morning - Dave I, RichT and AndyM. Toby's volunteered but that was before he got plastered and I kind of reckon there must be someone out there who'd find it easier than Toby would. Any takers?
-Four marshals for the afternoon - Dave I, Dave Cook, Rich D and Mike G.

It would be really, really good if we had one or two more bodies around, especially to help judge the finish and cheer on the Clifton contingent in both races - step forward and have a good ride Cam, Tim, Rich D, Tom, Andy and Dave C in the vets race and Daniel Gray, Muzzy, Andy M (and honorary Cliftonite Damian) in the BC event! Any volunteers?

Thanks Phil. Mrs Evington will be around for the finish. Seasoned marshal and divi champs organiser :D but will have to multitask with 19 month old. Sure she can at least tell you where Daddy dragged his sorry ass in.
