Sad News

Post by Darren N »

I just wanted to let people know the very sad news that ex-Cliftonite, Viv Hepworth, passed away unexpectedly at his home last night.

When I first joined the Club, Viv was one of the first people to help me. Viv volunteered his services to help at many of the Thursday night Tri-club TT series as well as the Clifton Spocos. I remember him giving me lots of great tips at the beginning when I could hardly clip into my pedals let alone ride my bike fast.

His wife, Carol, a colleague at work, had told me recently that, after a long lay off, Viv had just built himself a new bike and was feeling excited about getting back into it.

Many people around the Club knew Viv better than I did so I thought I should pass on the sad news. Please remember him in your thoughts, our sympathies obviously go out to his family.

Just to echo Darren really - a lot of us owe Viv a lot. He did more helping/organising than riding for a few years and definitely put more into our sport than he took out. A lot of us have photos that he took of us competing, which he then enlarged and distrubuted freely. We've not seen him for a few years, but I always expected to bump into him soon.... very sad news.

This is really sad news. Everyone involved with Clifton around 10 years ago knew Viv and although he was only with the club for a few years was really involved. He was always encouraging & supportive both from the roadside or in a committee meeting and came with us to many events in his unofficial capacity as club photographer. For anyone interested some of his photos are on this website in the ride reports under competition. He was very much involved with the club from committee meeting to pub night, was racing sec, president (I think) and organised a couple of open time trials. Our thoughts are with his family.
