weekend Roundup 07/01/12-08/01/12

Post by Broom Wagon »

I’m missing the exciting exploits of the Saturday training ride, but a short ride today has left me a lot more optimistic about my Sciatica. I still can't stand on the bike and I think my leg would prevent me doing any 20mph+ heroics (as if I've got the fitness at the mo' to do that anyway), but pootling along on flat roads at 15-17mph I felt quite happy and comfortable - which is an improvement on last week. I think it will sort itself out soon enough - a couple of weeks and I might be back to normal.

Completely marmalised my legs, 5 hours on friday, training ride yesterday, and clubrun today.

Also tried to save money by running my front tyre down to the carcass, I'll be buying 4 new tubes monday morning so it didn't work out too good. Thanks for the spare Rob.

8 in The Square for the Sunday Clubrun, some regulars plus some not so. Good to see all. No nonsense route around Pock, M Weighton, Kiplingcotes, N. Dalton, Huggate to Millington. Then back via Kirkby Underdale for a round 70miles at 2pm just as the weather deteriorated. Great route, loads of bikies out and few cars.

Some super group riding on display with rarely more than a metre between the wheels all day (though I did have call for 10W of normalised power to be knocked off at the front towards the end).

More of the same over the next few weeks. Hope to see you out there.

A great club run today, really enjoyed being back out riding with a group! Fantastic weather this morning, and a nice route too. Thanks all! :) Got back into York around 2pm and decided to extend my ride as I still felt good, so manage 101 miles in all.

Oh, and Rob, as my waffling left a bit to be desired, here's an explanation of normalized watts for you if you're remotely interested :)

A new departure for me... went fixed properly for the first time. A christmas present of a new frame and forks (planet-X macinato, blue, steel, very nice) has built up with old and new bits to make a shiny new fixie, running 48*17, spd pedals and a front brake. Took it out yesterday just to check I could start, stop, ride through junctions etc without falling off or hitting things; today dropped our youngest at a birthday party and snuck off for a quick fix around the hills of brandsby, coulton, scackleton and sherrif hutton to see how things went.
I ended up walking twice; I wobbled out half way up brandsby bank and didn't even try on the climb out of coulton. I thought I might have to walk *downhill* a couple of times but managed to keep things under control by leaning on the brake to keep the cadence just catchable. You have to lose some old habits too (like instinctlively idling over speedbumps; this nearly brought me down before I'd got out of the carpark!) And no idea what the mileage was, I haven't installed a computer yet.

All in all, a lot of fun, and when the gradient isn't too steep in either direction the smoothness of the drive feels great. With my racing bike still in pieces after an accident, I'll the give the fixed thing a go for a while. Hope to join the flatter training rides once I'm more confident...

About 17 in the square on Saturday at the last count. The groups split was a bit uneven but hey what the hell we all headed to Millington on various routes and the inevitable happended we all arrived at the same time. Our group had passed a group of walkers just before the cafe which id hoped had just vacated the cafe but no. But i think when a large group of sweaty cyclists turned up it was enough for some of them to leave anyway an create some space

Direct route back to York for our group with about 65 miles round trip from York.

Also decided over the weekend to enter the Etape du Dales this year in May. I noticed a few other clifton memebrs on the entry list would be good to have a few to possibly ride with . But saying that the last time i did this in 2008 my time was abit rubbish and probably would hold everybody up going for a good time :(

I think you guys shot past us, just outside of Millington? Appeared to be moving at quite a nice pace! There was 2 of us heading towards pocklington.
