We (Malton Wheelers) would prefer to help out Clifton for the first year if thats okay. We have no-one in the club who have organised a RR and are rather nervous about organising one from scratch. Indeed, last years open 10 was a first for me, didn't get much sleep for a few nights before!
Fingers crossed for the future events.

Meeting happening between Rich Houghton and Pete Sutton and others tomorrow (I think), so expecting some thoughts back on which circuits would be most economic to use sometime soon. I included a map of your suggested route in with the Print-outs from Bing maps which I emailed through.
Will be back with any news once we hear.

Response back from Rich H following yesterday's meeting:-
Yesterday's meeting with Sgt Jon Hunter (North Yorks Police Traffic Management Dept) was extremely positive. The Force have a mapping system which logs and displays all Road Traffic Collisions around the County. When viewing the circuits you forwarded, we were able to identify any 'hot-spots' and other likely problems that Highways may raise. I was fortunate to have Tony Smalley with me, who recently retired from the Force, having formerly worked with Sgt Hunter. Their combined knowledge helped us come to the following conclusions :-
BISHOPWOOD / THORNER / MILBY-CUNDALL / BRANDSBY-CRAYKE-STILLINGTON / WHELDRAKE-ESCRICK-THORGANBY
No major issues with any of these circuits. No collision 'stats' to indicate problems. Sgt Hunter is prepared to be quoted as to his opinion that these circuits are suitable for cycle road racing (provided no roadworks etc)
NEW KIRBY MISPERTON Circuit
Appears totally viable, although several of the villages have pubs. One query was with regards to the closing time of Flamingo Land, as this will greatly impact on the volume of traffic using the Kirby Misperton roundabout. I have established that the latest closing time is 18.00hrs - which gives a full hour for traffic to clear before a likely race start time (?)
LANGTHORPE - KIRBY HILL / ALDBOROUGH / MARTON
It was collectively considered that there were probably too many issues around these two circuits. Both have roundabouts which would mean some intensive traffic management etc.. In view of there been a number of less problematic circuits, these will not be progressed any further.
The next step is for Pete Sutton to visit and assess the circuits with which he is not already familiar. Once all have been assessed and the traffic management planned, then we will approach the respective Highways Area Representatives, in order to submit plans and a formal application.
Will update you again, once Pete and I have completed the next assessment stage.
With compliments and kind regards,
Rich Houghton
(Community Traffic Management)
So.. ..all pretty positive. I'll need to keep in touch with Pete anyway regarding the club RR day so will check progress re the next steps. Meanwhile, we could usefully progress getting other clubs on board... ...Cam? And can we confirm the dates we want to run them?

Brilliant, looks hopefull.
Drivers leaving Flamingo Land would be on the opposite side of the road heading for the Malton/Pickering road anyway.
Re. the pubs. I could make a big thing of it and try to get them involved!!!
If memory serves me right, there are two pubs on the route - Kirkby Misperton and Habton.

Sounds good Phil. I will advise Neil and Fraz of Dirtwheels and Yorkcycleworks as they has already indicated that they would host. I have contacted Richardsons and Ilkley and they are giving it some consideration. I will chase them up. If they are are not interested there is still a few other clubs that Pete suggested I could approach....In terms of dates I know we said we would avoid clashing with the EYRRL. Last time I checked there was nothing on the TLI calender for next year. I can contact the Organiser to see what days they are looking at for next Summer.
I guess it would be a good idea to meet with Neil, Fraz and a rep. from another prospective hosting club at some point??

Yup, a meeting would be good - probably best to wait until we get a bit more back from Rich H about which circuits and what the procedure will be on the night - this will have a bearing on number of marshals required etc. Matt's comment re pubs warrants a bit of thought too - depending on which circuits, it could be good to be a bit more proactive about getting local people onside - Event HQ's in pubs, bit of publicity etc. All to be discussed.
Dates:- If we're going with Thursdays (to avoid the Tockwith races on Tuesdays) then ideally we would slot into the weeks inbetween the EYRRL events - although there would probably be few people who would do both. If you could check the proposed dates, that would be really helpful. Sounds like something around 3rd May - 9th Aug.

Just a quick update:
*Am still looking a fourth club to host. Still have one or two to try.
*I spoke to Mark Robinson last night. Waiting for him to get back to me re: dates for the EYRRL next year.
*Here is a copy of email recieved from Pete Sutton:
Cameron,
I think I need to check out the courses we have got so far and then meet. I will speak with Malcolm at EYRRL and get his dates so we can avoid them. If I can get a few volunteers for asst comms, we can train them in Feb/Mar and get them sorted asap and work from there. A meeting can sort all that out. Hoping to go out week after next and start the ball rolling. Could meet later that week. Will check with John the new RCA and get back to you.

Hi Pete,
Rich Houghton has got back to Phil Bixby about courses and it sounds promising. One thing I wanted to check with you...You mentioned that getting Commissaries might prove to be difficult. Do you think this is going to be a big problem. We would look to have the races on Thursdays and avoid clashing with the EYRRL (TLI)

Road Race
Phil. There is the chance of a Yorkshire Road Race League. This will be under BC Regs. We have a date pencilled in. Possibly on the Sheriff Hutton circuit.
Spoke to Fraz at Yorkcycleworks this afternoon. The League he is referring to is something else Pete Sutton is trying to get off the ground. There will be 5 races in this on various Sundays next Summer - dates to be confirmed. The one that Fraz will have a hand in may well be on the Sheriff Hutton circuit and has provisionally been pencilled in for 3 June. This is likely to be an 'Elite,1 ,2 & 3' race.
Fraz/Yorkcycleworks is still interested in supporting our league...

Email correspondance from Velo Club Beverley re: their possible interest:
Thanks for getting back to me Paul...If you check out the thread on Clifton CC website - It's under "Racing and Training" then "A new North Yorks. RR League" - That should tell you about the courses that have been looked and considered viable. In terms of whether 'Hosting clubs' would get a guaranteed a number of places, the idea of the league was first floated in order to have more opportunities to race for all our riders, but the ins and outs of this has not been properly discussed yet Paul. Appreciate that you would like to discuss with your members but if you could get back to me ASAP or by end on month that would be great. If you are not interested I would need to press on and try and get a another club on board.
Many thanks
Cameron

Hi Cameron
Thanks for getting in touch. I think Rob may have had email problems. (Rob - and Martin - see Cameron's original email below).
Can you put us down as a maybe? I don't want to commit other club members without sounding them out first but in principle we're keen to support the local RR scene.
It would be ideal if the circuit we helped on was as near to us as possible - is this feasible? Also, would our guys get a ride in the rest of the series? I'd estimate we've got about five regular racers and a few newbies for 2012 who would be interested, assuming of course that you run on alternate weeks to the EYRRL.
In the meantime I'll sound out interest. Do you have a deadline by which you need to know for sure whether we can help?
Cheers,
Paul

Further email correspondance from VC Beverley (see below). They are interested, which is great, although they raise some obvious and reasonable questions. Perhaps we can meet up again when Pete Sutton gets back to us and discuss some of these details..

Hi Rob,
Apologies...should have copied you into the email I sent to Paul but here it is:

All the questions you raise are perfectly reasonable Rob. We are waiting to wait for Pete Sutton (from BC) to get back to us and then it is clearly important for us to sit down and think about the points you raise about which clubs host which races and how many rides can be afforded to each hosting club. Will keep you posted and put you down as a "possible". As I said to Paul you may want to check out the Clifton CC website which tells you which circuits we are looking out

Sorry for the delay but I wanted to sound people out a bit first.
In principle VCB is keen to help. We already put on our own race each year and we run one of the ERRL events so are committed to supporting the scene. What we really could do with is more detail regarding locations, even if it's only proposals. If it transpires that the races are too far away and consequently people don't want to ride them then it's unlikely we will want to help run the league.
If the following criteria can be met then I think we will be able to help
A) the races are mostly within reasonable distance from Beverley so people will want to ride them
B) all VCB riders will be guaranteed a ride in the series if they enter the whole series in advance. (I assume that as a fair bit of travelling will be involved it is likely that in reality the 'team' will probably have to duck out of a round in order to provide drivers/marshalls etc)
I look forward to hearing from you and hope the series gets up and running regardless of whether VCB gets a ride or not.
Rob
