Greg's put he National HC result on the other thread. Would be good to hear a report from someone there... maybe one of the proud parents? Ashamed to say that I don't even know where the event was held this year

Anyway, Sunday Clubrun for me. 6 in the Square (Skymoos, Iron-man Ed, Richard, AndyG and Heather) all smiling in the Autumn sunshine. Headed W for a change, following Warfedale past Otley and Ilkley - have never seen so many bikies out. Great day for a ride. Bolton Abbey cafe - much talk of Winter Solstice Tan Hill ride - you've been warned - get your excuses in early! Then on via The Strid, Appltreewich, Stump Cross, Duck Street, Pennypot Lane, Pannel and home. Hummed along nicely with the tail wind and running out of gears on Duck St. 100miles at 17mph - legs feel lovely. Thanks for the ride again gang.

The national HC was just north of Buxton, Rob.

My own hillclimb was the day before, the BUCS (universities) climb up Curbar Gap, on the other side of the Peak District. I was a bit nervous after last week's dismal showing, and if the calibre of the field didn't help matters, neither did my recce of the climb itself: 180m climbing in 1.7km made it steeper than our own model, with the steepest part at the start. Noting to myself that it would be very easy to go off too hard and die at halfway, I duly did just that and sat up for the middle section, before taking the plunge and giving it full gas up the final section and directing my bike at the nearest grass bank when I crossed the line. I don't think I've ever been so knackered before! My time was 7.30, which put me at 94th equal out of 150 starters, scraping into the middle third, so I'm happy

What I'm not so happy about is that after being beaten on University Challenge by UCL, the one UCL guy on the hillclimb rode 22 seconds faster than me! I'm beginning to get a grudge about those Londoners ... Anyway, my bike's now gone in the loft and the winter bike is being assembled in the front room, including its full length mudguards with flaps - happy now Rob?

Afterwards I went to see the Revolution track meet at Manchester, which included the race between new round-the-world record contender Sean Conway and the old record holder Vin Cox. Vin Cox won, which doesn't exactly bode well for Sean. He starts his trip on Feb 18th along with several other guys, so that'll be a race of 5 months. Somehow, I don't fancy staying up late to see how that one finishes.

4 takers for the ride out to Driffield on Saturday, Shaun, Karl, Neil and self.
Out through Stockton, Bossal, Kirkham, N Grimston, Duggleby and back via Skerne, Hutton, Tibthorpe, Millington and Warthill. 80 odd miles round trip from York so not too hard. So c'mon guys don't be putoff from the A ride or intermediate what ever it's called these days and at the end of the day it a club run on a Saturday instead of Sunday. But I suppose that's the beauty of a popular club you have a choice of rides on a weekend.

Rob funny you should mention the Tan hill I was asking people if you'd mentioned it yet. I would love to do it but the weather for me would have to be pretty benign for December(does that sound like an excuse) for me to be a definite. I don't mind cold but spending the day been terrified of black ice isn't ideal for me. I will keep you posted.

Spent last week in the Cairngorms with the family on a lovely restored Farm, half way up a remote hillside.

Not a cycling holiday as such but we took the MTBs and I managed to steal some time to do a big ride through the Cairngorms to Aviemore. The route was a mixture of hard track, beautiful natural singletrack and non-existent track but scenery was breathtaking throughout. As with most of Scotland, navigation is 'interesting' as their long-standing Right to Roam arrangements mean there's few clues on the available tracks from looking at a map.

In 4 hours of riding I didn't see a single person or vehicle, with just a few wild deer and large birds of prey for company.

8 of us in the square for a brisk 3 hour ride on sat. Good mixture of familiar faces & a few newcomers. Nice sunny morning for it - but roads were a bit greasy - bit of a spill on one particularly bad corner (I can't remember which one - anyone else?) where Martin came down and RichT and I (practically in sync) just 'touched' our brakes & lost our back wheels. Still, no major damage so we dusted ourselves off & carried on up to Boroughbridge and onto the old A1.

We managed some very tidy through and off - bit quick for the time of year & we must have had a tail wind as we were doing about 28mph at points. Wind certainly picked up on our way home back through Easingwold/crayke so it was quite a 'weathered' (ie totally knackered) group that came back into York. 60 miles or so & home for twelve ish.

Training rides proper start next week - but think I'm finally going to have to give in and ride my Winter bike....

Well my first time out since the three bridge audax on Saturday when I joined the "B" group from the square. 11 of us out in near perfect Autumn weather.

A very enjoyable ride up onto the North Yorks Moors and to Thornton le Dale for lunch at the Forge Cafe. Very friendly staff and huge cake portions! 75 miles covered door to door.

Now hoping to be out far more regularly so see you next Saturday! Thanks to all for a great day.

Great sunday clubrun, cheers Rob. I've ridden along the lanes from Otley to Bolton Abbey many times, but I've never seen so many riders, many of them in Sky jerseys, riding shiny new bikes..fantastic! Nice tailwind home for tired legs and another 120 plus miles in the bank.

More a month end than a weekend round up. For only the second time this year I had a full month without interruptions because of aches, pains, work, mechanicals, holidays or grandson sitting duties (oh yes you've got that to come now Bernard) getting in the way. Not sure October should be the second highest month's mileage of the year but I'm just pleased I've been able to finally get some consistent and regular miles in.

Still couldn't manage to fit in any rides in club company though other than Gerry's Autumn Brevet, but did do the three bridges all on my own - can I have the challenge points please Bernard it'll just scrape me a silver?

Next challenge is fitting in some club runs.
