It's not a racing thing for me I certainly don't feel I need a rest after an handful of vets races. October through Christmas should be a time when a K ride regular can go out to Pateley with the inters without fear of getting a kickin on every climb.
I go out with all the groups, more riders should try it.
Time to reclassify the Intermediate ride?

We used to have a category in my old club, and I've seen it elsewhere too, called 'Hard Riders'.
These were the guys that come rain or shine, winter or summer, set out each week to put in a hard ride (usually 100m+.) They had no interest in training, racing or sightseeing but got their cycling buzz from knowing they could ride each week on the limit.
You also knew exactly what the ride was all about when you turned up. It did what it said on the tin.

Interesting reading through all these posts. What is great is the fact that there is now such a turn out for the saturday rides - only shows how well the club is doing.
Regarding the intermediate rides, I usually give them a miss, because they are too hard for too long for me. Now I KNOW I should be doing long winter miles etc, but if I'm going to be hanging on to someones wheel, I'd rather be doing 22mph for 3 hours than 20mph all day.
But everyone has a different preference - I really enjoy cafe stop rides/socials, but have so much other stuff to do on my weekends, I can't always do all day. (hence my splinter group this weekend).
I guess what I'm saying is that the rides seem ok at the mo. The longer intermediate ride sort of does what it says on the tin, and as for the K rides - it is SO hard to predetermine the groups as the same people are not always out the same weeks. Kevin does a grand job splitting folk up at the square, but I think we need to help him out a bit by sorting ourselves out more. Maybe if there are one or two folk who are regulars then they could take on a group? (if Kevin doesnt mind)?
And as rob says, if those rides don't suit you - you can always post on here to see if anyone wants to do something different.

I think it's maybe the description of the social rides that needs changing...have you read them? definitely don't do what it says on the tin.Dr Dave wrote:Coming back to the thread, can I just say that my aim was simply to address the naming of the inter ride and the potential for misleading folk, NOT the nature of the ride itself. Sorry if this wasn't clear...
I like Tulio's idea of the hard riders.
