Yeah good ride today. Good to see Tom was ok, and Broomwagon and family did a great job at the HQ with the spread, cheers, and I'll sort out a way of getting my helmet back later.

Indeed... After all that slogging uphill and upwind, the downwind turn at Tan hill itself felt good. Unfortunately I enjoyed it too much, misjudged what should have been a simple dip-and-bend and ended up riding off the road at some speed. I think the front wheel must have dug into the soft verge and sent me flying over; at any rate the forks snapped, I did a couple of somersaults and the bike ended up somewhere else.

I was *very* lucky there was nothing but soggy moor in my way. All I got was a cut on my shin and a painful bruise on my back (caused by the pump in my pocket I guess). The bike is a wreck.

Everyone in the group helped sort out my stuff strewn across the moor, and checked that I wasn't badly hurt. Luckily the next car along was a park ranger's land rover; he took me down to Reeth where the parks office lent me their phone (good old mobile coverage) and printed me a route plan that got me back home on bus+train via Darlington. They're also looking after the "bike".

They couldn't have been more helpful, and the same goes for the rest of the bunch. Thanks very much guys, a great ride until then, sorry to hold you up in such a foolish way and I hope it all went smoothly after that.

Cheers,
Tom (eating Brufen)

Glad to hear you got home ok Tom after we saw you at the cafe in Reeth and hope you are not too sore for long.

Like to say thanks to Heather Steve and Dawn for the company and the sterling work they did into that strong headwind as I struggled at times on the way out, I was delighted I managed it and got my 3 points.

Also a big thank you to Steve aka Broomwagon for organising it on what must have been a very long day for him also.

Tan Hill

Pretty excellent day out. Managed to hang out with the first bunch away up to Wensley (much to my surprise), after which it was hard grind up the north side of Wensleydale and steady away up the tubs and on to Tan Hill.

Tail wind home boded well for a good time back but 7 or 8 miles from the end found myself pedalling fresh air as rear cassette decided to let go of rear wheel. But no harm done, unlike for Tom with whom I'd been comparing the merits of Planet X not long before his "off" - glad to hear no long term damage to you Tom.

Big thanks to: Mr Broom for organisation; the guys up front on the way out; the words of encouragement from various folks as they passed on the climbs; Dave C and group for concern outside Helperby; and Mrs Mal for coming to collect me.

If this ends up as a separate post it's down to my IT ineptitude
